Brandon Saine: Will 2012 Be a Breakout Year for the Green Bay Packers RB?

As long as the line stays healthy, any type of decent running back should have success in this offense, with defenses clearly keying on Rodgers and the passing game first. All three of these running backs are major keys to this team. They need to help out Rodgers. Rodgers has been the second most sacked Quarterback behind Roethlisberger the past 4 years. Green Bay hasnt had a good running game until The Superbowl year when Starks got hot, and Rodgers had one of the best QB postseasons in NFL history. Give Rodgers that all year and he will destroy QB records.

Brandon Saine is def.one of,if not the fastest RB on the team and one of the best Receiving backs on the team.Im wondering if he would be the one who would beat out Starks for a starting job.Although if you look at Starks numbers,he averages over 4 per carry career wise ( albeit in a relative small sample) but you are right,if Saine does produce or Starks,that will take pressure off of Rodgers and he will be throwing TD and piling yards almost at will and it will keep defenses off of him and not many hits.AR has proven to be alot tougher then many thought 2nd most sacks behind B.R. of Pitt and yet missed 2 games.

I feel that if the running back corp can come with 1200-1400 yards in rushing it will definitely take a load off Rodgers. The question I have is who will step and take that roll? As much as I like the Packers offense it is not really setup for any RB to get a lot of carries allowing themselves to establish any kind of consistent running game.

Since Saine is the fastest RB it would be great if he plays well enough to contribute. Speed always is a threat. However, being a good RB is a lot more than simply being fast. I hope he can contribute. Starks is alright, but he hasn't shown the ability to be a feature back. I'm hoping the Packers can at least have an effective running game "by committee."

You are right,speed is always a threat but yes a good back is more then fast,he needs experience back there and the only way to get it is to play,so in Saine's case we have to learn as we go.
Obvioulsy they have to have instinct and quick reactions to hit the holes and know when to cut,read defenses ect,but ,if he didnt have some of those instincts to this point,i dont think Mc. would have them on the roster.I have a good feeling and 12K yards would be a good start.Grant made his living p/u 12K yards himself,so if a committee can do it,it should be ok.

By my count Grant, Starks, Kuhn, Saine, and Green totaled 1295 yds last year.

I think we need to aim higher, 1200 yrds by our RBs- was it not enough because it seemed to be about enough last year. Or was it just enough to keep everyone ‘slightly’ honest while we torched them through the air?

Well I think we all agree an improvement can go a long way in our ability to control the game and not have to get into shoot outs every week.

A lack of running game didnt help in the playoff loss to the NYG for sure.The ability to control the clock and make them stack the box so AR can find bigger territory to throw as well as keep the defense off the field could have been the difference maker for the most part

Not whole reason for loss but to control the clock meant NY offense off the field and GB offense controlling,would have helped
