If Ryan is picked #1 overall by Miami, and he does not live up to expectations, then this contract and player will cripple the franchise for years to come.
As the Giants have recently demonstrated, you can not have enought pass rushers, and Miami currently only has one on their roster(an aging Taylor)plus with a DT, its a two for one improvement, as improved pass rush will also pay dividends with directly improving cornerback play.
Less risk with a top tir DT as well, big difference picking the top DT in the draft versus tthe top QB as the QB position is a crapshoot. Most of the best ever QBs of all time were not selected in round one(Joe Montana and Tom Brady for example)
I hope for a assured starter that makes an immediate difference with the overall pick, a DT will give you this, but a QB may not ever start.
Its unfortunate that everytime the Dolphins have had a top 10 pick in the last 6 years, that its always during a draft year where the QB position is weak. Why couldn Miami get lucky and draft in the top five the year MAnning, Rivers and Rothslegurger came out?

I agree with Scott about the QB, but I think the they need to take Jake Long, not Chris - with a franchise LT in place, the rest of the offense starts to fall into place. I agree we need a pass rusher as well, but if you have the one pick, you have to look at the overall impact on the team.

If you don't have an O-line but have Peyton Manning throwing the ball to Randy Moss, you don't have squat as Peyton will be sacked. If you don't have an O-line but have Barry Sanders running the ball, you don't have squat as Barry gets jammed at the line of scrimmage.

You can't open up the passing game if you can't establish the running game and vice-versa. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THE O-LINE.

Vernon Carey is a potential pro-bowler at his natural RT position. Samson Satele is a future pro-bowler at center. I feel it makes a lot of sense to get that LT this year being we couldn't get Joe Thomas or Levi Brown last year.

Being that the QB class this year is weaker than normal, we should get the next most important link on offense: the LT.

I think Chris Long will be the pick. Flozell Adams will likly be signed in free agency, as the dallas conection keeps coming to Miami. That being said, Chis Long also has somewhat a Parcells conection , through Al Groh.

Barry Sanders neveer really had an o-line and when he did, they couldn't block for him cause nobody really knew where he was going. The guy had more moves than Gale Syres and Walter Payton put togeather

I agree with Marino, O-line is the key to both the running and passing game. Barry Sanders was the exeption to the rule.
For example. The last buffalo game. The one John Beck was pulled from. Did anyone notice how little tiem BECK had ? As soon as the ball was snapped, there were defeners in the backfield. NO QB could suceed in that. Marino, Brady, Peyton, NONE. Nopt even a Mike Vick who can RUN fast. Didnt anyone notice when Cleo was put in, the Bills ran the same defence, yet HE had more time to throw? I wonder, could the O-line have een BLOCKING better for CLEO than it did for BECK? And coudl THAT be one reason why PARCELLS let JT SHelton AND Rex Hadnot WALK? My 1st thought when I noticed that was to fire the O-linemen. I Guess thats what happend!

Thanks! Regarding Cleo and Beck in relationship to the O-line, that really is weird and I noticed the same thing you did. I would like to think that the O-line wouldn't be screwing around like that, but who knows? My original thought was that Beck was not used to the pro game and speed. He made some bad reads at the line of scrimmage as far as calling blocking assignments. We may never know for sure what happened, but I wish Rex well.

Do you think we're going after Flozell "The Hotel" Adams (Parcells buddy) or leaning towards Chris Long at LT?

I would have said Flozell woukld be a fin. But the boys got him back befiore he could becion=me a free agent. Too bad for us, I think he woulda signed here, then Chris Long, the DE would have been 1st pick, Still could be if the Jason Taylor rumours are true. IF Jason sticks around, it could be Jake Long, the LT. It seems its easier to get decent defencive guys in free agency or trades than it is a good Tackle, so maybe Jake Long should be the pick regardless.. I like Chris, but there has to be balance. It wont matter if the defence is dominating if they are on the field al the time.
