Frankly, Clements earned every dollar of his contract last year. You can't pin a unit's performance off of one man's play. And frankly Clements did terrific. He had the most forced fumbles on defense and didn't have many interceptions because many QB's didn't throw his way much. If you want to pin blame on a section of the defense it has to come down on the Defensive line. The best secondary in the world, let's say Rod Woodson (in his prime) Deion Sanders (in his prime) Ronnie Lott (ditto) and heck Nate Clements (last year) put them all on a field together and then put the worst Defensive line on the field it's hard to keep up with receivers considering the difficulty of that position. Hopefully the 49ers upgrade at DL this year especially since we lost BY and maybe our defense will continue to improve. However, do I hope Clements gets a few more int's, yes, emphatically!!
