Iam starting to think maybe because McGahee not showing up for the mini camps..maybe he's not commited to being a true Raven..and thats why he's having trouble in camp..and out of shape

McGahee is a step down from Jamal. I don't like that he's late and out of shape. He got winded in 75 degree weather last year. Jamal had more yards and better all around offensive stats than McGahee. We need a running back who can pound it to the defense, and that's not McGahee.

A good back has got be solid at catching the ball and making plays on LB coverage. It will make it much easier to run the ball if the defense has to worry about a fake handoff and pass to the flat. That half step of hesitation can be the difference in there being a hole, or an OLB crashing accross the line.
That and quick seem passes to the TE are the main ways to punish the 8 in the box approach to stopping a strong run game. You can still run on the 8 man front if you can make them read and react, and expect and respect the backs flaring into the flats.

Jamal only got 3.5 ypc on the 13 win team here in 2006 that was ranked 11th in total offense.
Willis is not quite the trucking back that Jamal is, but who is? Jamal actually cut his playing weight back down to around 235 instead of the 245 he was playing at here.

Willis is a stout 230 himself, but with a little more bounce and burst. I think Willis can be very effective in the new scheme. He still had top 10 NFL numbers last year in both carries and yards in a bad offense.

hahaha...you guys are unbelievable.. the guy has a fumble and a *poor (opinion) practice after not handling the football for 6 months and you want to give his job to Ray Rice...give him a chance. Don't you think Ray-Ray may have missed a tackle or two in the last couple of days?? We're 5 days into training camp...sheesh..

Maybe we should give a couple more million dollars and a better committment from the Ravens.
He's got a lazy bone and thats disturbing.
If someone gave anyone one of us a chance to earn $40 million, we all know we would do everything in our power to do what we could to help the team.
But here we have a guy who lacks the common decency to abide by a generous agreement made to him.
Yeah, he'll GET in shape but d*mn what a lack of character.
Yeah h

The real Jamal Lewis was his last two seasons in Baltimore, not the comeback season of last year. Jamal was and is the better ball pounder, no doubt. But he has hands of stone. McGahee's plus is that he potentially adds a dimension on third down that wasn't there with Lewis. That is, if he gets into shape physically and mentally to fulfill that potential. Hope he does. If not, that's why Ray Rice was selected.

McGahee said. "I didn't stay on the field as much last year”. Then he went back to his routine that was heavily criticized during his time in Buffalo, attending one voluntary minicamp and the mandatory one this year. That shows great commitment I suppose. Winded all the time last year. That in itself was unacceptable. So this year he skips more camps. Not professional and points to his non commitment to this team and his well paying job! Disappointed to say the least, let’s hope he proves me wrong but thank god for Ray Rice.

The sad thing of it all is...Willis has a ton of natural talent and everyone knows it....but to play your whole career on natural talent is just stupid.

Ray Lewis has a crazy off season workout...and it shows. He shows up for camp ready to go full steam the day he arrives.

Im sorry to say...but being great in the NFL takes really hard work...and Im not sure that Willis is the guy for that.

He'll be good for a few years...but thats about it....good.

Never a great back.

By the way...I love those comments about Jamal Lewis. Everyone forgets that the Browns have one of..if not the best Offensive Line in football.

My Grandmother could gain yards behind those guys...she even has a basket on the front of her Rascal to hand the ball off in to...

I'm not giving up on Willis just yet because like him some great athletes have had criticism on committment like chad johnson or randy moss. Now I'm not saying Mcgahee is on that same level where chad and moss is but he is in that similar situation. While I agree that McGahee needs to be in football shape, the fans need to be patient since we only got through one week of training camp so far. Talking bs about mcgahee's committment to the team and shouldnt be playing this season is pretty much not even necessarily.

An NFL contract isnt based on what he has done....its based on what he will do for the future...and Willis go paid a lot of money. I think its totally fair to b***h about it...because WE are the ones whos paying him.

I remember hearing from Bills fans after the announcement had been made that McGahee was going to the Ravens that McGahee took himself out of games as much as Jamal, and had trouble grasping the Bills' playbook the whole time he was there. So far, their feedback seems to be spot on.

McGahee Is Good but Obviously Durabilty is An Issue As well as focus and Dedication.....It's Funny To me that so many of you who swore Lewis was done are alredy starting on McGahee and Ozzie Newsome's 40 Millon $ for the same production decision....whch has only ben foolish surpased b releasing Priest Holmes and throwing away 25 millon on Elvis Premier offensive line Grbac...You guys always come around to reality a year later....[except in the case of Boller which took you 6 years] than the fact...Hilarious.

Rob,
McGahee has not done what it takes to be a premier back in the NFL during the offseason nor any other offseason in his career.

This has nothing to do with Ray Lewis, Elvis Grbak or Ozzie Newsome.

This is on Willis McGahee....

Let me ask you this Rob...

Is it totally a coincedence that last year McGahee ran for the most yards against the Bills, Patriots and Dolphins?

I dont think its coincedence at all.

Is it a coincedence that he also had more touches than any other games against those teams...and 26 touches against the Jets?

I dont think so at all...

I think it was McGahees choice to run all over his old division rivals and old team.

I think all people want is that same dedication in all of our games.

That dedication starts in the offseason....and that my friend is reality.

I wonder if he is not smoking or drinking or doing something that keeps
him from being in shape ( besides for being lazy)
