Actually, remembering that painful event makes the current young team (hustling, team-oriented, getting better, etc.) even more fun to watch!

I ask the same question. I think we need to be careful with the constant comparisons to prior versions of this team. I respect what Harbaugh and his staff have done up to this point and I know many of the fans/sportswriters/etc. get really giddy about giving Billick the business, but it serves no purpose. Although I hope for the best from our new coach for years to come, Harbaugh has not done a single thing except coach this team to 8 wins against teams we were supposed to beat and lost to 4 teams we weren’t supposed to beat. This organization has been extremely successful in its very short existence and to constantly disparage the coach that brought respect to such a woeful franchise shows a lack of appreciation for what we have accomplished up to this point and for how difficult it truly is to win in this league. If Billick had spurned the Ravens for the Browns in 1998 and led them to a Superbowl in 2000 while beating up on the Ravens in the process, the city of Cleveland would have built a statue for him, the NFL would have eaten it up, and we might have been going through what Cleveland has been going through for the last 10 years. Let’s move on people and enjoy the next chapter in Ravens history for what it is.

I think you are correct, but still miss the point.

In the past seven years, the Ravens have been up and down, but through it all there was a frustration at a team that could have done more.

This year we have an young, exciting team that has played well in all but two games. Moreover, we see an old-school coaching staff that does not pretend to be a collection of geniuses. Finally, we do not see all of the locker room chest thumping that we saw in previous years, but mostly we see a collection of veterans and young players deciding to play old school as well.

Overall, I and other fans are enjoying a team that has already won 75% more games than they were supposed to win.

I definitely get the point and I am enjoying this season as much or more than the next fan. I drink the purple kool aid and bleed purple just like the next guy. I just think we spend way too much time and energy comparing this team to the past when that effort should be used to enjoy the present. We are setting ourselves up for failure if we continue to do so. Just let it ride and see where our new coach takes us ....

Normally, I would agree, but with our team's history as a guide, I look for significant differences in how the team's attitude is being rebuilt (as compared with the past)

Now, even the veterans (most of them anyway) are changing their ways - being more team-oriented and less boastful. If Harbaugh has the time and opportunity to add "his kind of players" to the team, we could see a consistent high-quality team for years to come.
