Mike Vandermause column: Season shows Rodgers was the right call

Full story: WisInfo

General manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy have a lot of soul-searching to do following a 6-10 season, but there's at least one move they made in 2008 that needs no apology.

I whole heartedly disagree with the pathetic stories regarding how honorable McCarthy and Thompson are! I've never seen two people who were less willing to take responsiblity for ruining a team! Look back at the '99 season and didn't we fire a head coach for doing the exact same thing? Indeed! Rodgers couldn't close the deal and McCarthy's stupid, stupid play calling was just as bad. Perhaps it wasn't about Favre's skills as much as it was his ability to be a leader, motivate players and know when to call an AUDIBLE!!!! Rodgers is a brown nosing punk who had his head so far up McCarthy's rear end that he was the only one who didn't see that 'hand off to Grant up the middle' play coming. As a 26 yo blonde female, I could have done a better job as a head coach and if the rest of humanity saw those repetative plays being called time and again, why did McCarthy and Rodgers think the opposing teams defense would be any different?

Despite his BS speeches after every pathetic loss, Rodgers did nothing to keep himself from getting sacked and McCarthy took no initiative to ditch the plays that the Pack has been using since the last moron named Mike (Sherman) was head coach. If the Packers had a traditional owner, this farce of a season would have played out with the firing of Thompson and McCarthy. Now that Rodgers is under contract, anyone with a brain knows Farve should be brought back, if not as a player, then for sure as a coach.

Since the Packers organization has no consideration for it's veteran players, the team itself or the wishes of it's fans, I disregarded them at the begining of this season, to cheer on the Eagles and Andy Reid, former Packer Head Coach. McCarthy and Thompson can fire who ever they want, and try to blame the defense, or defensive Coordinator but Rodgers inability to put points on the board in the 4th quarter were the reason for this season's record.

I hope the organization enjoys the loss of fans and revenue that this decision has inevitably cost them....

GO EAGLES!!!!*There's a team with fire*

I agree with Randi. Judging the decision to trade Favre to another team by comparing the stats of the two QBs it total and utter crap. They play for 2 very different teams with 2 very different coaching styles and Favre had to learn an entirely new system. So judging the decision based solely on the statistics of the the 2 QBs can be nearly discredited. What needs to be looked at is what would Favre have done had he been the QB for the Packers this season. First of it is very likely Favre's stats would have been better had he played for the Packers. He was familiar with the system and the coaching and he had a far better offensive line and receiving corp. Those things alone would have pushed his stats up.
Also, can anyone argue that the outcome of the losses that were close in the 4th quarter could have had a much different outcome had favre been at the helm. I realize this is hypothetical, but Favre was known for amazing 4th quarter comebacks.
To allow Mcarthy and Thompson a pass on this just because Rodgers' stats were better than Favre's is not taking into consideration all of the details and leaves them witout accountability for their role in reducing this team from 1st to 3rd in the NFC north, behind 2 teams that are mediocre at best. And for taking this team to the NFC championship game one year to not even making the playoffs the following year. There were very few major changes in personnel from last year to this year, but there was one major change. The question that needs to be addressed is was this what caused the demise of the Packers in after just one season?

Randi and all other "FARVE" backers... 17 years he was with the team and you still can't spell his name right? Any argument you make has no credibility. It's "Favre".

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Aquarius

Money is a source of friction between you and friends now, so treat it with caution and respect. There could be a disagreement between you and a chum about a possession or a debt that one of you owes the other. If you're trying to organize a forthcoming social event, you could come unstuck when working out how much it's all going to cost because it might be far too expensive.
