Isn't this the same writer who claimed the Ravens were "for real" two weeks ago? A seasoned reporter with a supposed football background shouldn't be prone to the knee-jerk post-game emotions to which fans easily succumb. Preston should be writing for a high school newspaper -- as long as that paper has a good editor to clean up his copy.

I think Harbaugh was as disturbed about the poor play as anybody watching on tv.I hope he does'nt read these blog boards because he might start packing allready according to some dramatic Ravens maniacs. Some of the Balt. writers and tv people are former NFL guys and maybe they're acting too tough on Harbaugh for his liking at this young stage of his head coaching career,I don't know, yet. But Ravens fans are knowledgeable, outspoken on more occassions and we've felt offensively challenged the last 5 yrs, lets say.BB left with the bar pretty high,in my opinion, but please Jim,don't tell the ticket holders that winning is'nt all that important right now.We know we're not going to the Super Bowl this year-that much is clear! We just need to hear a message that hope and help is alive and well in the organization;unlike when BB was let go last winter.Everybody has to keep their head up here-including the fans that pay a good deal to enjoy a good game and show on Sundays.

Another bullseye Mike!

I Quess the Giants had a reality show last night. Preston and steele are bottom feeders, what ever they can criticize about. The ravens need this year to work the bugs out for flacco. Hell it could take two years with the way the defense is playing.Steele and preston are amusing idiots at best.

Good article Mike. Why does everyone get mad when you write the truth about this mediocre team?

Your corners are down, when they are healthy they can shut down Manning. So you have no corners, Chris is hurt, you can see it, the other side, you have nobody. Ray is injured too, you can see that. So the D will lag now ( because of injuries). The O can't get behind because they have no big play producers. They just have to drive and hope for field position. Your defensive backbone, (your corners and Ray) are down, you are in trouble now because your O can't come from behind because you have no recievers to bring you from behind. To be a .500 club each game would have to be perfectly played because of injuries and an incapable offense. Tough road coming up. Just enjoy the game and the development of Flacco. Be easy on him, it's his first real job, he is trying to learn in front of 80,000 screaming people.

I have to agree with you for the most part except about "perfectly played". There are adjustments need to be made that can give us a better edge in games. Return game for one. Figures has been awful and has placed our offense in terrible field position. The play calling against the Colts was awful - a first and hopefully last for Cam. The secondary can't go against Payton and Co but then again, with Brady out, there is only one Payton and Co out there. Still Ryan needs to evaluate how he is running the defense. He needs to go back and look at film and see when his defensive alignments leave us vulnerable. No, not perfect games but coaching to our strengths to play against their weaknesses. |

Sometimes a team comes out and everything clicks, like it did for Indy, the Cardinals, and the Rams on Sunday--and like it did for the Browns last night. So the Ravens got blown out just like the Giants, Patriots, and Redskins. Chalk it up and move on. Next Sunday is a whole new ballgame.

Harbaugh isn't in a corner with his Flacco statements. If he wants to sit Joe, they'll just say he's hurt.
It's about time someone questioned the east-west running, as opposed to north-south. Why on earth the Ravens didn't just run right at them, all day, regardless of the score is beyond me. The game was essentially over after falling behind by 17. They should have just stuck to pounding up the middle with McClain. This would have kept Manning off the field, and would have given the O-line more of a chance to gel. |

Is anybody besides me getting sick of hearing the sportscasters prattle on about the "mighty NFL East"? Maybe they'll tone it down a bit now since the "mighty" Cowboys got beat by the lowly Cardinals, the "mighty" Redskins got taken to the woodshed by the St. Louis Rams (!?), and the "mighty" Giants got their a**es handed to them on a platter by the "hapless" Browns.

I'm really not sure why anyone is surprised at what happened against the Colts. I saw it coming a mile away. Preston is spot on in this article, as the Ravens are in deep trouble. It doesn't bother me though since I only expected 5-6 wins from this team before the season started.
I guess some of us live in reality while some choose to put their head in the sand and think this team is better than what they really are. |

Mike, what happened to the objective assessments I once praised you for. What happened, are you and davey steele sitting down together and seeing who can tear up this team more? Is your man not at QB? Why not pick on some of your buds who just run the ball or not? Maybe you should try your hand at becoming an NFL coach, you did play college ball at one of the top 10 colleges, or was it Towson? Any way your back being one of those I told you so writters (not reporters)two days after a bad game. Get real...

Why do you refer to "parity" as "mediocrity?" If you could clone the '71 Dolphins and make a league out of them you'd have a league where everyone was about .500 and you'd be calling the league "mediocre."

Great post. It has been a trend the last 3 years that mediocre teams have won the Superbowl. No one jumps out as being dominant every team has a weakness. So even the Ravens as pathetic as they played Sunday can make some noise if they play fundamental football. RUN the ballcoach Hardhead and be thrilld with a punt instead of an INT. |

I agree about the NFC East. They are definitely overrated. They started out hot and are now sputtering. The AFC South is still the toughest in my opinion. The Texans are much better than their record and always a threat. Tennessee is undefeated, J-ville is tough as nails, and Indy, despite their 3-2 record still has the most talent in the league, in my humble opinion. At least we didn't get our a** handed to us by Cincinnati or Detroit.

I am a Ravens, Orioles, U of Md and any other Maryland team fan win lose or draw.
What drove me crazy, Cam decides to throw the ball against the worst run defense team. He should have let Flacco relax with some early running. That move did not make sense. Then C Mac has one job, watch the receiver, what does he do (forget the hurt theory), he looks back and gets burned, twice. Yamon needs some blocking to run, anybody. I like Harbaugh and this team, but they have to focus, and stop the stupip penalties. |

This little fat semi-balding black man who is shorter than me played football in College???!!!!!!! WTF for you Rocky Mount? He looks like the towel boy. And he writes like he didn't finish high school unless it was Baltimore City high school. What a bad really sad newspaper the Sun is for hiring this guy. He sucks just like the Ravens did Sunday. But then they are a 6-10 team just like I told ya in August during pre season. Soon he'll be crying for Boller to take over.

You have to love the logic of throwing out the wins and only focusing in on one game. Our great writers at the sun.

Once again Preston is 100% accurate in his assessment of the Ravens! Flacco bites but Sean Shaefer of Towson U. will be available in first round next year; we need a QB!
