Can the Ravens make the playoffs?

Full story: Baltimore Sun

They took a big hit when right guard Kendall Simmons tore his Achilles tendon. They lost depth in the backfield when first-round draft pick Rashard Mendenhall fractured his shoulder.

I think the Ravens need to get (wr)Marcus Smith involved in the offense.Put him in situations where he can excell.I don't think Mark Clayton is the answer because you have to have a certain toughness at the reciever position and I don't think Clayton has it.He is good when you have a lead but not when you are trailing.Let Smith use that 225lb frame of his to help in the passing game.

Yes,I do think that the Ravens can make the playoffs. They have all the pieces that they need but like I said.Get Mason some help in the passing game.Try to get Marcus Smith involved and let him use that big frame of his. Also Flacco needs to use his legs sometimes to make defenses respect him and give him a target to throw to.

Agree with Ken Murray. With the exception of their first win, Pittsburgh has not looked good and that was before the myriad of injuries. Arguably, the Steelers "win" Monday night was a "gift" from the Ravens, who literally gave the game away with mistakes after dominating for most of the game. And, remember, the Ravens were without 3 starters on defense, as Gregg, Rolle and Landry sat out. Barring a similar set of circumstances, the Ravens will only get better and look like the class in the AFC North.

I agree, the Raven's can make the playoffs but will not and for many raesons, the old culture is still there if not to the same degree, but it is still there, tooo few ploaymakers, actually none, no tight end , secondary can't tackle, too many blown coverages, and untill you get rid of some big contract guys who seem to go through the motions it won't happen, Ray Lewis is the only big contract guy who lives up to the hype and he is getting old, maybe next year we can get some playmaking recievers through free agency or miracle, but until we get some we will not be a playoff contender, Mason is the only reciever we have and he is just not a big paly type, he is a first down possession reciever.

The thing I like about the Ravens is that with each game, they get better. They're learning and learning fast. Stupid mistakes cost the Ravens the win this time but, but they really beat the Steelers. The Steelers couldn't beat us on thier own, we had to help them.

Ravens will not sniff the playoffs. So get over it homers. Joey Flacco showed his true colors under pressure when he turned the ball over twice in the second half Monday night.

I am more concerned about improving as a team and winning games day by day. I believe in 2000 we won few games in the beginning and won a lot in the end. The polar opposite can occur, no question.

Offensive line needs to keep strong, play calling has been weird (i.e. throwing on first and running on third). Defense proves well although they let a few things get out of hand.

We may have play off contention but not based off of 2 unworthy teams and one possibly worthy team. Let's play teams that are winning with dominance and see how we play... if we keep within a touchdown and a field goal or better we may be a true true contender.

There are some real signs of life with this team, but let's not forget the low expectations we had in training camp. New offense, rookie QB, DBs who can't tackle, and a bear of a schedule. Can't wait til Sunday!

I am so tired of everyone on other threads talking about the lack of discipline of the D resting on Ray Lewis' shoulder. When was the last time Ray had an unsportsmanlike penalty called against him? Has he ever? He's the model the others can only hope to come close to matching. He creates an intensity that he can control, the others can't seem to.

A little early to discuss this, but its good for killing time. Talk to me at the half way point. I do like the development of Flacco! Anything positive this year is gravy! The Ravens weren't supposed to do anything this year anyway!

The second turnover must have happened in your mind...the Ravens only had one turnover as a team.

No I don't expect the Ravens to make the play-offs. Billick had the team in such a mess, and although Coach Harbaugh has accomplished far more than expected this early in the season, he just can't patch all the holes as fast as they pop up. Yes he and his staff have taught them to block better, run better, run better patterns, and showed them how to bring a team together etc. That's a lot so quick. I don't think in Harbaugh's world he could even imangine a player committing such a stupid foul as Johnson did at the perfect point in the game where the Ravens knew they were in control. Then you had holding on the kick off in over time. I guess there was holding, I didn't see it. So Harbaugh has a team discipline problem and other will pop up. So as great a job as Harbaugh has done there is more to do before the Ravens can make the play-offs. Also Flacco's shown he has a problem hitting the long pass. He completed zero long passes. I know his recievers lack ability, and I am sure he'll get it sooner or later, but still that has to be adderssed. With all that said I would NOT bet against the Ravens making the play-off. Harbaugh, his staff, and the players are very impressive, and they are making Baltimore and all of their fans proud. Go Ravens!

This is a young, hungry team but let's not forget that's a double edged sword. The Ravens have reduced the number of penalties but they still have a penchant at making stupid plays at the most inopprtune time (see J. Johnson). Given the schedule I'm still saying 8-8 at best.
