Bob Hunter commentary: No Favre fatigue here -- the guy is grea...

Full story: Columbus Dispatch

With quarterback Brett Favre now pondering a third "retirement," it's safe to say some Favre-weary folks hope he takes his gold watch and AARP card and is never heard from again.

I totally agree 100%...I think he's the GREATEST QB of all time...not only because he holds every significant passing record but because you know with Favre your team ALWAYS has a chance to win the game. The man plays with so much heart and determination and the things he can do at his age are incredible. I have had the honor of seeing #4 play on many occasions and he has never let me down..Even in defeat he goes down guns blazing. Being a DIE HARD Packer fan it's hard to see my favorite football player of all time suiting up in purple and yellow but I thinks it a small price to pay to see a living great play the game I love most even if its for the team I despise the most. We can only hope that he has a yr or two left in him, because I know this football will NEVER be the same without him in it on Sunday..GO FAVRE!!

I couldn't agree more with your article. I am so sick of listening to people blame Brett for this loss. When they win they say it's not just Farve but the whole team but when they loss it's all his fault. Come on, he is a joy to watch and gives it everything he has. Everyone on that team and the coaching staff needs to take a share of the blame for the loss. I hope to see Brett back but if not thanks for the memories.

I agree - Also I think you need to look at what happened before he came here. If we had to have Jackson as the QB, we would have never made it to the playoffs. I think its better to get there and lose than not to get there at all!

I have no comment on whether Favre should retire, but, do know, no quarter back can win a game lying flat on his back.....That's where he was most of the game. The Viking's game plan was to hobble Favre and they did it. He had very little protection and I could not see any adjustments that were made in protecting him what so ever.
Of course neither team showed much defense.

Spare me. Favre in his 3 consecutive MVP seasons was a sight to behold. He played QB as well as it has ever been played in that period. With that came the ad nauseum hero worship by the media and one particular network announcer who shall remain nameless, (let's just say the guy has the most popular sports video game of all time bearing his name). This man who for the next several years of mediocre play from Favre continued to build the legend of the good ole boy from Miss. who was universally loved by teammates, gunslinger supreme, played with more passion than any other, etc. etc., excused his poor play and found a way to inject his name into about every single telecast. Brett Favre was a great QB who unfortunately revealed himself not to be just a good ole boy but a diva just like all the rest. Dont believe the hype. Favre was a SB champ one time. It can be argued that the Pack won because of their D that year. Often they won in spite of ole number 4.

The Favre fatigue comes from him not deciding what to do every summer. He's fun to watch, he's a hall of fame player (although not best ever QB...not even top 5), but spare me the Favre watch next July and August. He holds teams hostage.

I don't doubt that Favre is a great football player and I fully support his right to keep on playing. What I don't like is the off season drama and it is a product of his own doing. Favre already sparked the hot stove by saying that he is leaning toward retirement. This wasn't an offhand remark at a press conference, it was during a scheduled interview.

If Favre would have said from the very beginning..."I love Green Bay and I adore the fans but the team needs to build for the future and I need to move on to a place where I can accomplish my goals immediately..." it would have been fine. Instead, he played games.

I also think Favre is overrated. His stats are impressive and he was exceptionally efficient this year but for the second time in three years he had the ball in his hand with a chance to lead his team to the Super Bowl and he did something stupid. It's not his fault that the Vikings lost, but he did have a chance to lead his team past all of their mistakes and he ended up making the biggest one of the night. All he had to do was run a few yards down field, but he opted to throw a terrible pass to a covered receiver. Great QBs don't make those mistakes.

I don't think I'll miss him. He's been fun to watch, but I enjoy Peyton Manning so much more. His mastery of the game is amazing. I like Drew Brees more because his enthusiasm seems more pure than Favre's.

I hope I don't ever have to watch another game with Favre as QB. If the Super Bowl had been Vikes-Jets I wouldn't have even turned it on. Having said that, I could watch Peyton Manning play every day of the week. So part of it is personal feeling and a very large part of it (for me) is Favre Fatigue. And yes, the INT was so predictable the idea would have been turned down by a movie producer (I'm sure I'm not the only one who told everyone who would listen all week that Favre was going to throw a killer INT at the end of the game. And that's part of the Fatigue -- his ego is too big for my liking, and he feels like he has to be the hero)

You know, if the MEDIA wouldn't keep asking him about retirement, it wouldn't be a story!!! Just let the man play football, which is does better than most QB half his age! And when in the hell is the NFL going to get rid of the STUPID "Win the coin toss, move the ball 40 yards and kick a field goal" overtime joke!??

But when the media lose interest Favre calls his agent and his agent starts calling reporters. Make no mistake, the media circus is created by Favre.

I'm right there with you Diane... I rooted for the Vikings the 2 regular season games against the Packers because of the way they threw him under the bus. I am sooo glad the Vikes spanked them. One of the greatest QB's of all time, all the Favre haters are jealous, probably Lions or Browns fans who have no idea what a talented QB is....

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Gemini

A little give and take goes a long way, so try to be flexible and malleable when dealing with others. It will also pay to ask people what they think rather than to make sweeping assumptions on their behalf, because you could be in for a surprise. A child may have some interesting information for you, or they could make a statement that really sets you thinking.
