Something to talk about: 105.7 FM switches to sports

Full story: Baltimore Sun

The radio home of the Orioles, 105.7 FM, changed its format yesterday from news talk to sports talk, giving Baltimore its first FM sports station - even though programmers there stopped short of embracing ...

Great news, Fm station is so much more powerful. Only drawback is Anita Marks. She has to go. She thinks she knows everything and knows nothing. I heard the Scott Garceau and Anita Marks show yesterday and I loved the way Scott didn't let Anita take fully control of the show. Some of her comments are so far off base, not because she is a women, she just doesn't have it. Great news with the station.

I think there is officially a sports talk station war in Baltimore. I don't see how our two big time sports teams can support 4 1/2 sports stations, but it will be interesting to see how it plays out. As for 105.7, I guess they had to do something. Norris was the only thing halfway decent on that station. Kirk and Mark haven't been funny since 1995 and Troy Johnson had no idea what he was doing. That show was unlistenable.

They should be able to rope in dozens of Orioles fans.

They could save money by just opening a window and yelling.

Thanks for the info on the switchover. Now I can eliminate 105.7 from my radio's memory button choices, as I have no use for a pissant station that does nothing but promote over-paid morons playing kiddie-games.

It would be nice if the station had a stronger signal! I live in Manchester and get better reception from Lancaster stations than I do from this one.

Open a window and yell out loud.

You'll reach more people.

Big mistake, my morning drive of 80 minutes will be very boring now. Norris is to blah with no appeal in his voice. Besides I can't talk about the murder rate that much. He is still a cop no matter what he is doing.

Can I just say, Kirk and Mark were way over-rated. I found myself constantly turning them off when they were on 98Rock. Then it is no surprise 105.7 failed in their experiment. They misjudge.

Article correction -- Brain Wilson hasn't been on WJFK in weeks. He was replaced by some guy named Pentek.

Good luck riding the Orioles train - probably the best move WBAL ever made by jumping off.

Let's see, CBS might have finally made a good choice of programming, but missed some chances to totally clean house @ 105.7. They should have sent Miss Miami (Marks) & Bulldog out the door with the has beens of Kirk & Mark & Troy Johnson. Anyone know how long Miss Miami's contract is for? I listened yesterday afternoon on my way home, as far as I could, & noticed Garceau never let her take over the show. I mean the show is now called Scott Garceau with Anita Marks. When I got home I turned on MASN & Scott was sitting in the main chair & Miami was sitting across in the guest seat. How long until they finally push her out? The only problem is 105.7 is hemmed in with the signal strength due to 105.7 the X from York (Rock Station) & I think 105.9 from DC. It starts breaking up around Jarretsville & is gone by the Maryland Line. They should have flipped 102.7 to Sports with the killer signal that station has & put JACK on 105.7. Also, Brian Wilson left 105.7 the start of October, reported by DCRTV.com , wake up Sun & research your info!!

I like the move to FM, and agree with Mark from Manchester, the signal needs to be improved. Also, I am glad to see Garceau take over the lead and have Anita Marks more as a "color commentator" or analyst, even though they don't admit it. Notice who runs the board now.

XM Channel 175 is the only dependable choice. Jim Duquette is co-hosting a show now 9-1 and while this guy wasn't the greatest GM, he's way more informed and smarter than the average talking head and he's got the pipes too. Plus I don't have to hear football talk, how great is that?

Look forward to the day when WBAL gets the Orioles back - most nights in comes in crystal clear in Connecticut. MLB.com and Xm don't cut it for me. Also look forward to O's signing Teixeira - I believe they have a 50-50% shot.

I'm re-stating the obvious, but Baltimore doesn't need 4 full-time sports stations, plus WBAL on nights and weekends. How small can the sports ad-dollar pie be sliced?

Just a prediction. It won't be long before Marty bASS starts making appearances on WJZ-AM. HFS has been a joke since they dumped the alternative format. They have gone through at least 1/2 dozen reincarnations of which failed.

I won't be tuning in until the next format change which should be sometime in the spring of 09.

CBS is trying to get ahead of the curve so that when President Obama re-introduces the fairness doctrine and all conservative talk radio is silenced, they will not be scrambling to change their format. Although their line up was not exclusively right wing, Pentek and Ed Norris were probably too close for comfort with their startling and egregious views on personal freedom / responsibility. Anita Marks is absolutely terrible to listen to. Will she still be hosting the Ravens player's shows? Her enthusiastic ignorance and nasal fawning over any and all athletes is unlistenable. And "the Bulldog" ate my fries without asking last time I was at Red Brick Station.

Anita Marks needs to go ASAP. What is the deal with these stations keeping her around? I liked Kirk & Mark and I hope they land on their feet. Ed Norris has a great radio show and I look forward to hearing him in the morning. A FM sports show should do well. Troy Johnson was AWEFUL!

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aries

Someone wants to go their own way today and they won't care whose feathers they ruffle in the process. It's a lunar eclipse at the Full Moon in Cancer, so let them get on with it. The last thing you should do now is to hang on to their coat-tails or do anything else that will make them feel restricted. Make it plain that you've got your own fish to fry, thank you very much. And try not to let it stop you enjoying yourself. Have a great night!
