Clausen would look great in purple

Full story: TwinCities.com

Rick Spielman gave the details of the trade that took the Vikings out of the first round and then I asked him, point blank: "Did you make this trade to take Clausen?" Spielman was on the clock.

vikes took cook, a tall CB who looks like a fail at CB. Maybe the vikes want him at safety.
Good observation, he is sort of a hybrid DB. The attraction is he was probably the best Cover 2 guy out there after Kareem Jackson. Not flashy, should be solid.

he can't be a better safety than nate allen, can he? Did you check out his you tube videos? he seems scared of contact. Very poor in run support. Reminds me of karl Paymah from what i seen, but paymah covers tighter. Scary pick to me. guess we'll see.

They're going to look like fools if Brett doesn't come back and have to rely on Jackson in what is already a ballbuster schedule. Clausen is the most ready of all the quarterbacks in the draft. Never give up your "Plan B".
The Vikes are not, plan B(BRETT), is precisely what they are going to utilize this season!!

I don't blame you for seeing it that way. All rookie DB's scare me. When I heard the Vikes fell in love with this guy at the combine I checked his scouting reports. Cook won't be an instant starter from what I can see. He will need coaching to improve his game. I do think he will see more and more action as the season goes on and will be solid when called upon. Starter by late this season? If that happens we found ourselves a player.

The Vikings always do this they band aid the QB position or get a older almost done with football QB like Moon or Farve. Farve last year showed what elevated play at the quarterback position can do for this team. An then a Franchise QB falls down to the Vikings and they don't get him, absolute stupidity. Guess this team is going to be stuck with Career backups and low draft picks that can't play. FIRE CHILDRESS!!!

We haven't picked this late in the draft since 1999. It sucks at the end of the line. I have to say that on paper we get the grade of C, and I'm being nice. Then again we really won't know until 2 to 3 years from now. I hope we really did end up with a bunch of gems.

wow, starter late season? that would be something! I guess i really like the way asher allen plays & even bennie sapp. i just don't see this guy as superior. It would be nice to be wrong. Don't you think it is really dangerous to fall in love with a guy at the combine? That's what al davis does....

LOL. I see you're underwhelmed. I should have qualified that statement better. I think a late season starter is actually pretty good. He has to beat out Winfield, Sapp, Sheppard, a healthy Griffen, or the bench to get on the field. Most likely, injury puts him out there. If he is an instant starter then no one would be more surprised than me...well except Winfield, Sapp, Griffen, or Sheppard of course.

Sorry, forgot one. No, I don't like it when a team falls for a player at the combine. I liked this kid at #62 if we ended up going with another position in the 1st, not so much at #34. Whatever the case, we can't blame the player for when the front office takes him. He's a late 2nd rounder who will develop like one.
