Purely as a fan, I can't say I'm happy with this move. But in terms of the business side of football, I definitely understand it.
Good luck wherever you end up, Freddy. |

Wow... fail. Way to treat a veteran.

Freddy T still has plenty of good football left in him. He ran behind the worst O-line in football last year and only averaged 3.9 yards a carry. Don't be surprised if he ends up playing for the Titans next year, Jeff Fisher really likes him. The Jags will continue their spiral down.
Thank you Fred for 11 great years! |

I have to agree with you on your post. After a great '07, the Jags digressed this year; I can't see them coming back in '09 with no real play-makers at receiver and an awful offensive line. I can see Taylor going to Indy for two years, and maybe helping them reach one last Super Bowl with this current cast. Wait.... Dungy retired... scratch my last comment from the books... |

Thanks for some great moments Fred, you are a class act and wherever you end up, Good luck. The University of Florida and Jax Jaguars should be proud of the way you comported yourself during your career. I hope it is not over as you still have a great deal to contribute. Good things happen to good people.

He is a nice enough guy, but he is washed up. He was pretty worthless in the red zone. He will play one more year, probably with the Bucs.

what a ridiculous move this is.

The guy rarely plays all 16 games in a season. To put it in perspective, he was going to make $6 million next year. LaDanian Tomlinson is only scheduled to make $7.1 million. If you think Taylor is better than Tomlinson, you don't watch much football. |
Don't think you would call this a Salary Cap move. Jags have plenty of cap space. No, this was purely to get MJD into the starting spot without any controversies.

well, for one he didnt get enough carries last year, especially considering the years he had before with 5.0 and 5.4 yards per carry in 06' and 07'. |
If he really cared about the legacy, he'd play for free. He is already rich.

well every athlete has the big house, expensive cars, and everything else they need the money for when they retire. so they cant just play for free. |
11 years making that kind of coin, he can afford to but he made the choice to price himself out of the market. Does he want a real legacy or a Hummer with rims? |
ESPN is saying that they're releasing him despite Taylor saying he'd take a pay cut. That in itself should tell you something. The guy was not very durable. How many seasons did he play all 16 games?
Bottom line....he's not a $6 million per year running back. Times have changed. Very few teams feature one running back. Most teams have at least two running backs who split carries. Why pay one guy the same price you could split between two guys? |
No, Taylor is no Tomlinson. Thats why he was scheduled to make 1.1 million less next year. Was Tomlinson healthy last season? He was banged up and a non factor in the playoffs. |

he offered to take a pay cut. |

Exactly, and there were plenty of running backs in the league that made far less money, but were far more productive. That's why the Jags released him. |

well, maybe if the team would of used him more effectively like they did the previous two years he would of done better. and he did average almost 4 yards a carry this year and that is about average for an nfl running back. it just seemed like they used him only in short yardage situations. the jags really dissapointed me this year becuase i picked them to go to the super bowl. |
