Jon Gruden's job with Tampa Bay Buccaneers appears safe - for now

Am I the only person who thinks that Gruden won that Super Bowl with Dungy's foundation in place? The way Dungy was treated was ugly, particularly when one considers his integrity and character. Gruden hasn't done anything noteworthy since that first year. He may have "kicked in the door" to win that Super Bowl but I'd say that he only finished what Dungy began. Since that time, I don't think he's done anything too original of his own. And Dungy just keeps on winning, integrity and character in place.

The Glazers were a lot less patient with Tony Dungy, despite the fact that Dungy did a HELL of a lot more with this team than Gruden has done. The Bucs have played in just TWO playoff games since the Super Bowl season, and lost them BOTH. How can that possibly be acceptable to the ownership?!?!? PLEASE get rid of this overrated, foul-mouthed idiot and HIRE BILL COWHER NOW before the Jets do!!

If the 2002 Bucs team was Dungy's, the logic applies that the Oakland team that year was Gruden's. So he's undeniably a legitimate Super Bowl winner.

But he has not been a success since then. Now Gruden is costing them $ in the bottom line... the value of the Bucs brand is eroding, fast.

Gruden has developed a bad reputation around the league. Players, free agents, don't want to come play for the man. The list of players he's handled dishonorably is too long.

He's also shown that he is incapable of developing young offensive talent, from being too impatient and petty. And without free agents, that leaves nowhere for the team to go.

With Kiffin leaving and taking his genius with him, and not there to run interference for his defensive players, the Bucs could be next year's Detroit.

And on top of all that, Gruden continues to bring in scumbags like Jerramy Stevens, Darrell Russell, Michael Pittman, Antonio Bryant, David Boston, etc. That has alienated a lot of fans like me who see no team left to root for.

Major overhaul for the Bucs, I say we pick up Darren Sproles. Everyone saw what he did to us. We already have clifton smith and he is deserving of his pro bowl nod. But Darren Sproles would be a great compliment back for us

I have been a fan on the Gruden ship however, this year's collapse is inexcusable and unacceptable.

As a former San Jose, CA citizen who's seen Gruden coach the Raiders, I can tell you he was a nothing then and has done nothing since taking over for Dungy to change my mind. He's a bag of wind with little coaching acumen. Time for a change. That goes double for the other bum, Bruce Allen.

The winds of change are blowing ... let's set the sail on Gruden and ship him off as a bad memory!

It's convenient to blame the coach. I think it's also a personnel problem, and yes I know Gruden picked a lot of the personnel.

If a mega-coach were available, even if Dungy were willing to return, I would go along with canning Gruden. But I see none available that would offer much chance of improvement.

On the other hand, we need to attract a real starting quarterback and a more attractive coach might convince McNabb or the New England quarterback to go with the Bucs.

Final analysis is we are judged by our track record, and the Bucs have become a mediocre team with a formerly outstanding defense and a non-productive "offensive genius" at head coach.

Guess I'll sit this one out.

I just hope the last 4 games are not a preview of life without Monte Kiffin, but...

One odd thing bothers me about Gruden and has for a few years; that would be seeming inability to accurately evaluate talent.

He canned Thomas, kept fumbler Pittman. Refused to let Graham play for several years, until absolutely forced into it.

Then there was the Gradowski debacle, Gruden's forecast as a future replacement for John Unitas in the hall of fame; the guy couldn't even throw a decent high school level long pass.

After the Gradowski eye-opener, I was dumfounded as to how Gruden became known as an expert on quarterbacks. But everyone kept saying he's "an offensive genious"...

F'me. They fired Dungy when he took us to the playoffs three years straight. Gruden hasn't gotten us out of the first round of the playoffs since the 02 Super Bowl.

This guy is supposed to be an offensive genius. This sucks!

Gruden should feel worse because he is evidently a terrible coach. He was hired, and the future of the Bucs was mortgaged, because he was supposed to be an "offensive genius". Well, he is offensive alright. They had a 1/2 nanometer and a cloud of despair offense for years and it won't win much in the NFL. He hasn't improved it one iota since he arrived. It's way past time for him to take a hike...

Chucky Boy's act has worn thin. His a-ss should be fired but the Glaser boys are too wrapped up in the Manchester United and they don't want to eat Gruden's salary.
They're going on the cheap with the football team and want the football fan's money to pay down the debt for the soccer team.
It will be the same old bull sh-it next season with Chucky pounding the rock.

me being a TRUE bucs fans all i got 2 say is, fire the Gm( hes the one responsible for bringing in the talent. how about a young qb? de? playmaking wr? i mean a coach can only do so much

The Broncos just fired Mike Shanahan after losing 3 in a row... well last time I checked we lost 4 in a row; so if the bucs aren't willing to drop Gruden, well I guess it's time for this Tampa local to drop the bucs. I can honestly say I haven't felt like we were going to make a run in the playoffs since 2002 and IM OVER IT!!

Why does this seem like a time warp back to the late-seventies?

Indeed, once again, we are on the bottom looking up.

Well after the bottom dropping out of the season - looks like some major overhauls are going to take place. Obviously keeping the salary cap money in the bank didn't work out so well - so I guess it's time to buy some new talent. Was it just me or did it seem as though right after Monte announced he was done at the end of the year - so went the Buc's D? Maybe it wasn't so wise to make that announcement prior to the end of the season. But then again - let's face it a SB wasn't really in the cards this year anyway. Gruden and Allen are safe for now but the next year will need to be peppered with some talent and some cash flow.

Derrick - we love you and always will but at 36 - I think it's time to retire. Clayton and Stevens - see ya and Bryant - come back to earth, resurrection doesn't come in a year. We need a new QB, Caddi's needs to be traded in for a smooth running less expensive Chevy. Barber made some good plays but he made too many bad ones too and that O line started off good but in the end had more wholes that a full box of fruit loops. Change needs to come.
