Is it at all possible that Alan Faneca could be signed to a new contract next offseason? I have a hard time believing that with the salary cap increasing dramatically over the next one or two seasons, that there isn't a reasonable hope that Faneca could get a new contract that's economically viable for both sides. He could still be an incredibly productive lineman for the next five years. There isn't a better run blocker in the national football league than Alan Faneca and I really think that the steelers should do anything they can to keep him. Is it still possible?

Hey lets hope so buddy, you don't lose a six time probowler without hurting the team. Look at what happened when the Bus stepped away...from super bowl champs to 8 and 8. We need big red and I hope the rooneys go to the bank for the guy.

The Rooneys seem to have the feeling that guards are currently getting overpaid, and sometimes when they get their teeth around a principle, it's pretty hard to shake it loose. They've gotten a lot better than they were in the '90s, though (obviously), so I'm hoping Slick is right. I wish Bob Roberts, the Prophet of Pigskin, would weigh in.

Troy Polamalu, Hines Ward, Ike Taylor, Aaron Smith--all evidence that the Scrooge family might be changing their tune. The Bulldog-man is right, though: dumbass owners are way overpaying guards that don't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Faneca, and that's part of the problem.

i think mr roberts is exactly right.I think once these guys have some sucess which alan faneca has had plenty of they begin to think of me not the team.they leave a team that is in contention nearly every year,to play somewhere thats not in contention ever, all for the $$$$$$$$.I really hope the steelers think real hard before letting him get away.
