Dolphins coach to address glaring 'holes' on offensive line -- ...

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano knows the Dolphins have two glaring "holes" on the offensive line, and acknowledged the team's plan is to address the starting right tackle and left guard spot in the draft.

We need a starting left tackle. Everybody knows this. Carey is better on the right. Hopefully Sparano's comments are a smokescreen and we draft Jake Long.

I would be happy for them to keep Carey on the left which rules out Jake Long, we get get Tackles just as good with the 32 pick. Chris Long is the pick

Keep studying man...I've been saying this for a month...VC graded out as one of the better LTs in the league last year, and outside of Clady, most scouts think all these strong tackles coming out this year are better fits for the right side.

Stop disparaging one of our best Offensive Lineman just because "historically" LT has been a weak spot for the fins.

That said, I believe J. Long is capable of playing LT, but I'm warning you now, lest you react kneejerkish if this happens: J. Long COULD be the pick and J. Long COULD play at RT next year.

Stay openminded.

I agree w/ you in that I'd be fine w/ VC at LT next year, but I don't think that "rules out" J. Long.

Mayock on NFL Network seems to think Ryan is a franchise QB. Says he's seen reams of film, but Mayock's not a QB guru!!(I like J. Long if we have to stay at #1).

Ideal scenario (45-60% chance of happening) is this:

We could, if a team has a definite player in mind...trade down a few spots, take Ryan, and STILL get two top flight OL's, as well as a DL early in this draft.

With the cap space we have, and with more created if Jason Taylor is traded for a mid to low #1 or high #2, we could realistically be looking at 4 -5 picks in the top 65!!

QB, OT, G, OLB, then either DL, WR or CB. All would be in the top 5 at their positions coming out, and with Bill's expertise at projecting college players into the NFL, most would be probable starters.

Then he'll find 1-2 more quality players out of day 2, as well as an undrafted player after the draft.

Future "Reality" Indeed

Xactly, but people get it stuck in their heads that "the fins need a QB", and "the fins need Oline help" and "the fins need an LT"

The numbers bare it out, the fins rushed right off the LT side for more then 5 yards a clip last year, and VC gave up far fewer than his share of sacks.

But people still think we need a QB and an LT, it's hard to stop banging a drum when it's the only instrument you've played for 10 years :-)

See the problem is your a "donut" and donuts have holes. Holes mean "0" like your IQ. Five yards a clip? Against who? How many 100 games did you have against good defenses?

The O - line can be fixed in the 2nd , 3rd , rounds . this draft is deep at that position. We need 2 get a every game difference maker with the 1st pick. That's why we need 2 get McFadden then trade him 2 the Raiders for their 1st and 3rd , then take GHOLSTON with the 4th pick in the draft . He's the next L.T. baby , plus we save cap money of 30 plus mil that goes 2 the # 1 pick in the draft .

I would agree. I don't claim to research the stats as much as some , but it's easy to get tunnel vision in this department.

Vernon has done a very good job at LT, I agree. About 'historically' the great Richmond Webb comes to mind, but he was the Marino at his position -- one of those rare yet delightful freaks. Fortunately for the Dolphins, standards are set within the team that their successors have to live up to...which is such a good thing to have.

But upon reading the article (coupled with reading between the lines during his interview), it appears to me that Sparano 'tipped his hand' as to drafting Jake. If that's the area of obvious need, he's the obvious choice...and since Miami has the first overall pick (unlikely to be traded away at that), he has nothing to lose by saying so. And it would be a good choice.

When asked his lineup, the O-line had the holes, while the front 7 D was pretty much set. Saying a 'hole' at RT spoke volumes. I can live with Jake...IF -- at de end of da day -- he's picked first.

If we get Jake, he'll be at RT, with some LT workouts, for sure. Miami will need that should (God forbid) Vernon goes down.

At de end of dis, I can't wait for the draft!

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Virgo

This is not a day for sitting still if you can possibly avoid it because it will be a fast track to bad temper and sharp-tongued outbursts. Have plenty of short breaks, go for lots of walks or work up a sweat in the gym in your lunch-hour. If you're driving, keep an eye on the speedometer because it will be very tempting to go too fast and you'll be furious if you're caught.
