The R wrote: <quoted text> Or, perhaps, the Bears' coaching staff has problems with teaching, schemes, player development, etc? Naah--that can't be it. They just don't holler enough, or "motivate", like the way Da Coach did (rolling eyes at Lisa). "R" guess we can't make peace, but thats cool ... but i still got to wonder if you've ever played the game, or ever coached at all. you say all the things that matter, scheme, teaching, coaching, but, how can you leave "motivation", "encouragement", "accountability" out of the picture. we seem to be hung up on this thought, but i have to tell you, I train athletes, one of my athletes made the USA Olympic team this year. She is a Triathlete. I do not need to say, part of her game is "digging deep" ... building anger, you have to want to destroy your opponent to be that successful ... believe me, her success did not just come on training alone. but seems we need to move on from this, i'm good with what i believe. And it's not about being right or wrong. Most of us long time Bear Fans want to see a coach thats going to do something besides stand there. Just the way we feel, and has nothing to do with right or wrong. WURD !!!

not a big fan of tebowm but i like his walk. He reminds me of Jimmy Mac #9. Same kind of "not great ability", but a winner.
if we can get him cheaply should he come out, why not? what the heck do we have to lose after 40 years?????
or do we curse him by drafting him?

See, here's the deal: especially today, it's all about preparation. I'm not saying that motivation isn't part of it, but you give WAY too much credence to it. The best coaches may motivate, but they teach. If your players aren't LEARNING anything, then all the motivation in the whole goddamn world won't save them, come game day. If you waste your time motivating, in place of teaching and developing, then all you will have is a fired-up, but unprepared team, that will get it's A-S stomped, versus a team that took the time prepare, teach and develop. Plus, there's the talent thing too. If I'm just simply better than you, it ain't gonna matter how fired up you are. In other words, get fired up, and I STILL whup your punk ass. There's a place for motivation, but it isn't the end-all or be-all of things, when it comes to athletic competition (or anything else, in life).

can the bears pick up delhomme or collins on the cheap? that's the bears way of doing business, especially on offense.

I was referring to the team's inability, even with a soft schedule, to finish games this year. No surprise they couldn't step to the plate for game 16. Here's a very telling stat for you: 2008 scoring by quarter. 1st: 109 pts. 2nd: 101 pts. 3rd: 88 pts. 4th: 71 pts. (Thanks for the eye roll. Nice color.)

If you look back at my post, I did, indeed, state "part" of the problem with why the Bears couldn't dig deep and finish out game 16. Thanks for agreeing with me. See, sweet34? R's not so bad after all! ;)

Hey, R, before I drive home today I'm wondering what you thought of the Cardinals last night? They sure looked motivated (ok, they looked pretty prepared, too). Definitely not the same team we played and beat 27-3 during week 12. Over such a short time span between the 2 games, how much improvement do you think came from them being prepared versus being properly motivated?
I'm hoping to make it home in time to see the SD game live. I'd really like to see Riviera take it all the way this year & stick it to Lovie. Without Tomlinson, we'll see....

Regarding last night, one team came, ready to play, and the other, didn't. The Panthers were heavy favorites...and played like a team that read the press clippings a few too many times. Arizona does have several weapons--particularly, on offense. Carolina's defense didn't get it done, and Delhomme was simply dreadful. Five picks. Then, again, he's streaky, and is as capable of leading you to glory, as he is to killing you. If Ben Rothlisberger can get off some passes, and the Steelers can run, I think the Chargers will have some serious problems. Tomlinson's hurt, and no way Sprouls duplicates last week, against Pittsburgh's defense.

Lisa, you think the "R" is sweet? Sorry. can;t agree. and ... i think he has a mouth that would last about 2 seconds in my home town. Words, are cheap my friend "R". And, no one ever said, that "motivation alone wins game", so, ya need to back off big time get a grip of your ego. Training, teaching, preparing are all very much a part of the game, just as motivation. What anyone has been saying is "the Bears seem to lack that and those thngs". Anyway, I am going to qoute you: The "R" wrote... Yeah, I played. Some time down the line, I probably scraped someone like you from the bottom of my cleats. Yaaa, I mean, i figured you were an all pro ... "talker". The "R" wrote Plus, there's the talent thing too. If I'm just simply better than you, it ain't gonna matter how fired up you are. In other words, get fired up, and I STILL whup your punk ****. again, WORDS .... where do you get off? and i can't tell you how many times a lesser opponent has won in sports ... AND YOUR WORDS FLEW OUT THE DOOR LAST NIGHT "R" ... ARIZONA is not BETTER than Carolina..it was strickly their motivation that carried them through that game. And don't give me this teaching, preparedness bit, both teams teach, and both teams prepare, afterall, this is the top of the profession. and lastly the "R" wrote: There's a place for motivation, but it isn't the end-all or be-all of things, when it comes to athletic competition (or anything else, in life). YEP. all i got to do is watch life come to me, surely don't need to wake up each work day motivated. Again, no one ever said "motivation" was the only ingredient ... but, "R" at least we agree one thing .. motivation and "fire" are part of the game. Talent, teaching, preparedness, all very important, and primary considerations for your team. But if you don't want it, someone else going to take it... pure and simple... Mr. Scrape"R". anywa ... Sweet34 is closing, I'm done with this, don;t need anyone calling someone a punk, those are just words ... "Real" men don't need to say things like that .....

Sweet34,
I did not call R "sweet".
I'm sorry he got under your skin. He just wanted a reaction, and you gave it to him. You made a valid point and he took it to mean something extreme to serve his own purposes. His interpretation of what you wrote was wrong and his need for getting a reaction got the best of him.
I'm happily married, but if I'd had to choose, just know it would have been you.
Nice chatting with you.

I've been a wreck with out the thrill of watching the Bear nail-biters each Sunday ... sometimes, i am just "hamming it". i mean, trying to stir the pot my self ... u'r totally cool, respect that, i even respect "R" ... no need not too ... like we've said, it's the game. ppl going to be p/o'd anyway that we are now using this as a chat room ...????? not sure. But, it was nice talking to you ... and, i can't with you agree more The athletes that I train have to have a killer instinct, and be able to draw motivation daily from some source. Daily. All the teaching I can give them, all the words of preparation, all the sound technigue we go over, means nothing if they cannot draw something from much deeper within themselves on race day to overcome the pain. At the top level, they are all gifted, talented, and have been coached for years. The great one's dig so much deeper. Married???? ya, so am I. thanks for the lesson on life too.

Sweet 34,
Yes, Arizona WAS better than Carolina. See who is playing, next week, for the NFC Championship, and who will be watching, on TV.
And, it looks like I got under your skin. Nothin' personal, or serious--it's the Internet. Al Gore would want us to have fun, on his creation.
Seriously, though, we can agree that sports take preparation, teaching...and motivation. But, you're approaching things from an individual sport, like the triathlon, where, perhaps, motivation may be more involved. From a team standpoint, motivation may be a component, but doesn't mean squat, if your opponent has more weapons than you.
Anyway, gotta roll--have some cleats to clean.
Just kidding!

The Best Post ever !!! I think you've won with that one. I bow to you. Great Post "R"; but I hope you didn't win Lisa back from me. Just Kidding. I got to bounce too. see ya next year ... I can just see it now T. Harris 7 sacks M. Anderson 7 sacks we will talk next year, as Rod is a fire in the belly kind of coach ... we'll see if the play is different .. i'm hitting "the sack" (a bar). You're the man "R". BR, sweet34. ya know we agree on everything .. maybe just in different degrees. cheers, slam a beer down. hi Lisa.
