I think Jeff Garcia would be a good veteran back up and this puts us in a position to trade Andrew Walter on draft day for another pick or two.

Oh and Patrick Patterson, Major Thankyou for the tidbit at the end about the Ocho-Cinco for M Bush rumor.

Getting Garcia does two things....
First is gives us Veteran back up which will help us should JRuss get injured...
It also makes JRuss work a little harder...knowing there is someone more than cpable to run the team in his absence...a good move all the way around.

...unless Garcia wants to compete for the starting position and not help Bamm Bamm become a better QB in this league, then it is a bad move.

Absolutely! I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Garcia play over the years, starting with his years playing with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL. This guy is a warrior (not to mention a two-time pro-bowler), and his work ethic, experience, and enthusiasm will definitely be an attribute in the locker-room. Another savvy move by the Raiders this off-season. Nice one Al!

Make that a four-time probowler, from the San Jose area, married to a Playboy Playmate. As I type this I'm imagining that I'm Jeff Garcia ... only better looking.

Well, It's a done deal now, so I'm happy to have Jeff Garcia as Jamarcus Russell's back up.

the only thing that crosses my mind on this issue is a vince young vs kerry collins issue. if russell does not step it up garcia will. i like that garcia joined as a back up but i was hoping russell was already as ready as a (qb) can be. this year russell has to be that or we will have a (qb) controversy. i want russell to be what we drafted him for. i want him to be #1 not number two! crap, he's already #2! hope that means second to none!

I knew Vince Young was overrated as an NFL level QB and by far didn't think he was worth a high first round pick (as well as his college teammate Michael Huff). He was never a good passer, he just was able to scramble and pick up the first downs. Those guys were just overrated because they came off a national championship team. I think Russell will be good as long as we play like we did the last 2 games of the season. Mario Henderson did not allow a single sack in any of his starts and that is the key nor did Robert Gallery...Protect the QB. Key 2 is for receivers to get open and catch what is within their arms reach like Chaz Schilens did. Johnnie Lee Higgins came alive at the end of last season too as a big play WR and a punt retutner. Michael Bush and Darren McFadden can handle the running game and each give an extra passing target from the backfield.

The past two years in particular in the NFL have proven that you need to have two quarterbacks on your roster who are capable of winning. I believe that there have been close to 50 quarterbacks who have started a game in each of the past two seasons. Garcia is more than capable. I'm much more comfortable having him come off the bench than any of the other options. Should be able to get a draft pick for Walter at this point in time. Go Raiders!

Fisher realizes this as well now but its too late. Reason why he kept Collins.

Not every 1st round QB pick becomes a star.

That's a fact...I remember Todd Marinovich, Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch, just to name a few...
