This restaurant conveniently placed their LA County Health Reprot Card where patrons could never see all of their health violations. Also, they were observed to "prep" food on a table behind the restaurant in the hot sun, no regiregeration, nothing. Other business customers nearby could see this. Watch your stomach. Not worth it.

My friends and I have been going to Sophys for a few years now and none of us has ever gotten sick from eating at either location. |

The food at Sophy's is okay; nothing special. What I really dislike about the restaurant is the type of service it gives; unless you are a regular you will not be waited on quickly. The number of times that I have been there; I have seen the waiters spending a good amount of times at tables of customers that they know. Unless you belong to a Cambodian Club or something at CSULB you will be kept waiting. I understand that most of their customers are repeated customers; but if they are looking to capture new business they need to concentrate on their other customers.

Somehow this seems to be a suspicious, purposely inflammatory post because Long Beach DOESN'T use LA County for health violations in restaurants. LA County uses the A,B,etc. grading system--Long Beach uses a more violation-specific system. If they had such violations, the City would've been rescheduled for follow-up inspections. So if the restaurant did violate City health code in the manner that you claimed, wouldn't Sophy's have been closed down by now...? Yeah, exactly. Some "foodie." |

I've had several friends take me to Sophy's (old location) several times. As a vegetarian, I had little to choose from and couldn't enjoy the experience. Please list how "veggie friendly" restaurants are in your reviews.

Our first time going to Sohpy's was really nice. It was at the old location, which was limited in seating, but they waited on us quickly. Took the time to talk to our kids and the next time we went, they remembered us and our kids name. You don't get too many waiters/owners doing that to their customers. The food is great, service is great. Although my first choice in taste is Seim Reap, this would be my next choice in all the rest. |

It a shame to used other ethic group to name your restuarant. You are a Cambodia and you should be proud to be a Cambodia.I would suggesting all the Cambodian peoples stop visiting this restuarant, because their not proud of they backgroud. I as a cambodia I will not spend a penny to any Thieve name or products relating to they products.I would mind to spend all my money to any restuarant who is name of they nationality. Shame of you guy.

This place really is like a home. If you eat there, you should get to know the staff just because it hasn't changed and they treat you the same every time. If they don't know you, then you will take it personal when you wait long. Just like any other busy restaurant, there's usually a wait during dinner time. If they do get to know you, know your names and etc, it'll make your experience better. So what the food is nothing special. It's still the BEST Cambodian/Thai in town and it's inexpensive. There's a reason why it's still existent. And what is up with Smiley Man's comments?

Europeans and Americans are friendly, but they can kill you from behind. They are the major trouble makers in the world. |
Too fu_king bad. Boooouuuuuu Hooouuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!! |
That is why lots of Asian people are so fat, and American are slim and petite, hahaha.
And they are so nosy and hypocrite. |
You have said it perfectly. |

Do you know anything about marketing? Attract a broader audience by coming up with a name that appeals to everyone. Unfortunately, not everyone knows what Cambodian Cuisine is or is like, thus it might turn newcomers off. Use a familiar name like "Thai" and everyone knows what we're talking about. Sophy's is a business, their goals are to make money. Its not a non-profit like Cam-CC or Cambodia Town that aims to promote Khmer culture. Did you even look at the name of the business? Sophy's Fine Thai AND CAMBODIAN Cuisine. "Cambodian" is still in the name! Also did you look at the menu? Over half of the items in the menu are named in Khmer. Remember that Sophy's is a business. Don't be so naive to boycott a Cambodian business just because "Thai" is in the name. Can't we just be happy and supportive that Cambodian businesses are growing big enough to be featured on PT? This is why we aren't going anywhere. All we Cambodians can do is hate on other Cambodians. Where is the love? |
