Port Christophers

Thank you University Employee and toollady. I understand that this is a open minded website and i wouldn't even comment on it until i heard about people running down my grandmothers name. I dont care what peoples opinions are toward the Mountain House or ports thats fine, but just watch what ya'll
say about peoples family. Thats all im gonna say.

As someone who has just recently moved to Boone from the SC coast, I was rather impressed with the seafood at Port Chrisophers. It was much better than I was expecting this far away from the coast. You can not expect to live in the mountains and get fish and shrimp as fresh as you would in Charleston or Hilton Head. That is just an unrealistic expectation. The service was a little slow, but they are a new rest. after all. I think it is not fair to rate a new rest. on one visit. Everywhere has a bad day now and again, especially somewhere new. Do none of you ever have a bad day in your places of employment? Have you never had a customer or client complain? I somehow doubt that you have not.

I will eat there again and I do know what I am talking about. I am very bothered that people in this area are so quick to jump to personal attacks when this was supposed to be a review of a new restaurant.

Hello, after reading this discussion board I simply just chuckle. Those whom don't know boone buisness, should stop with their burning comments and those of whom don't know what really happened to "baxters" should be informed on why baxters failed. baxters failed due to the owner having a horrible gambling addiction. which is the reason why the Library failed too, considering he owned both. Now, Boone buisnesses are ran by pretty much a slim few of owners. The Hastings Corporation, My roommates grandfather, owns Carolina Barbeque both hardees, and a lot of land for future expansion of Boone. Of course Murray Broome is well known from the peddler, in which I used to cook his steaks. and of course Betty Austin, the lady everyone either loves or hates. If you havent noticed, Port Christopher's buisness continues to rise, as soon as I can talk Jeff into opening the bar late night for the college crowd, well, then one need not worry about Port Christopher's staying open. Betty is a great owner, who yes obviously knows how to organize a chain of command, as well as having a great staff. I've only been working there a short time period, but i know we're going in the right direction and I plan to stay there throughout the rest of college And needless to say, everything takes time to achieve perfection. Every week betty or Jeff or the other managers are coming up with ways to make the port better and better, well perhaps you should stop back by and see what you think in a couple of months....until then bashing a buisness which is growing exponentially according to the buisness coming in and out each and every day...surely isnt helping the small amount of buisness that boone locals honestly have to choose from for any dining place.

I appreciate reviews of restaurants, if the food is no good I want to know before I go and spend my hard earned money. Let people give their opinion and we'll decide weather we want to risk trying it out or not! And if they're not satisfied I'm sure they will go somewhere else! For the good lords sake....YOU get a life already!

maybe we miss the old days when there was no wal mart cause it was a farm, when ASU meant absolutely nothin to anyone, it was just another school. When the only thing on 321, 421, and 105 was farm land. But no the town keeps growin because more and more people from Florida and every other state in America keep coming here cause you think its so great...well it was great and its not anymore.

Dont be cheap and spend a bit of money to find out if the resturant is good if you wanna know so bad...I dont have a problem with them stating their opinion if they can be nice about it...But gettin on here talkin sh!t about Betty and Jeff is what I have a problem with...and then when Jeffrey got on here to deffend his family they kept pushin it...thats what I have a problem with...

As for Florida people...I really dont have a problem with everyone from there...but the ones that come here and buy house that just sits for half the year...the ones that come here that cant drive and think they are better than everyone else because they have more money than everyone else! Those are the ones that I honestly can't stand.

And dont think I sit here and say all this and then go on Vacation in Florida because you are wrong I dont go there and I wont go there...The only time I have been there is when I was so young I didnt have a choice I had to go where ever my parents took me.

me get a life? I have a life. Big ol risk there. Waste 40 bucks to find out if a resturant is good or not. Thats a real risk. If you are so worried about it then dont eat out. It's great that you dont want to waste your hard earned money. We don't either but someone used their hard earned money to open a resturant for the public to eat at. The least you could do is give it a try for your self and dont listen to what others have to say. Who knows maybe those people really don't like seafood that much or maybe they are just way to picky. I got news for ya. You eat to live not live to eat.

Usually I do "give it a try" for myself and because I'm not familiar with the restaurant I end up getting crap for $40-$60....Guess what...going out to eat for us is a luxury...we're not rich...and I prefer when I go out once every 2-3 months that I get served something edible! Sorry if I can't afford to risk my $40!!!!!

You're right people on here shouldn't be trashing the restaurants family...but others have a right to speak there opinion if the food isn't all that great or the prices are to high for the quality!

I'm sorry Boone isn't what it used to be...but guess what....we live in the year 2008 and change has happened everywhere not just in Boone!!! Duh! You find a place that is still living in 1850 let me know and I'll be there!!! Love that era!

But not gonna happen so lay off the out of towners...By the way...I don't own a house that sits here for half the year (wish I could afford it lol)...but more power to them cuz they bought it, pay the taxes...correct? So hows that affect you? Would you rather they were here year round? Maybe they'd eat at all the great restaurants in town...spend their hard earned money...now wouldn't that be a shame. Boone and NC are doing excellent right now compared to the rest of the country...be grateful you have people here to boost the economy in your great town! You may think its bad but you don't know until you have lived somewhere else!! I have!

Oh by the way we have family that was born and raised here...a father as a matter of fact...in Wilkes county...so does that make it ok for us to have moved here from MI or FL?

ive been at mtn house 22 years.over time customers health regulations town regulations etc. have gotten tougher.people do not realize how tough it is to keep making it.i have seen more complaints about food prices on here than gas prices on the news.we have been serving people for over 35years.get together a list of privately owned places that have made it that long.has anyone bought groceries lately do you complain about the prices there.more people love taking the tip to the table from a credit card because they know the waitress gets it.dont be so lazy it kills you to walk it back.the sanitation has always been high and only the best stuff is used for everything.betty is my mother and people dont always agree with her.she has always made sure that people get what they deserve.some people feel if a fly is around the table we should stand there and swat it away the rest of the meal.get real everything in life is not perfect.we have given to many organizations schools chuches etc.but there alimit on how much you can do and stay in bussiness.seeing people downgrade two locally owned business is aggrevating.give new places time to get it right.and to wrap it up for everyone who said anything about my mother double back on yours.go local.

I ate at Port Christopher last night and it was the very best meal i've had there yet. i have eaten the at least half a dozen times. each time it just keeps getting better. i support betty and all her hard work as a local business person. i also think restaurant business is very difficult. all those who cut her down have never tried to run a restaurant. she and her family are assets to our community!! the food was fresh and delish!! try the terioki (?) chicken breast, the crab legs are also amazing. by the way, i got a steak there at lunch the other day........top rate.

i want to begin by saying that clay is my son. i did discuss his choice of words with him after reading all of this. i do,however, see why he wrote so rude of a comment. this is his grandmother and he sees how hard she works and how much of her time she spends trying to make her businesses quality and something this town can be proud of. it hurts him to hear such harsh things about her. anyway, i have been a member of this family for a long time now and have heard both good and bad about betty. she definately sets high standards. during the first few weeks at port christopher she about lost her mind trying to get everything running smoothly. she does not accept things except the best. that food is fresh, the restaurant is spotless and she does her best to keep the employees on top of things. betty is such a kind hearted person. she does so many amazing things for people and never gets recognition. one thing i love about her is that she doesn't want recognition. she is so generous to so many and she does speak her mind. a lot of people don't like it because it isn't always what they want to hear. she is truthful, she is honest, she is creative, generous, loving, entertaining and i am proud to call her my mother in law!!! if you haven't eaten at the restaurant lately, give it a try.......she has it going pretty dang great! i wish more people could support our local business people and love them for all the people they are!!

Betty Austin is a one of the funniest women that I know. She runs two of my favorite places to eat! I have eaten at the Mountain House for years and loved every meal! I have eaten at Port Christopher's twice and both times the food was delicious! I know Betty requires quality food and quality staff in her restaurants. People do not know how precious, generous, and kind Betty is! I admire her for all the hard work she has done in her life. If you haven't tried the Mountain House or Port Christopher's...GO FOR A GREAT MEAL!

I know plenty of people who won't eat in any restaurant Betty has anything to do with. Personally I get along with her and think she's a hoot but I know from witnessing her deal with anyone who dosen't see things her way she will never be in danger of winning Miss Congenality. I've only eaten in PC once and it was good but slow and Betty was very interested in our experience and wanted to make the restaurant as fast as possible. After all the quicker you eat and leave the sooner they can refill the table and make more money and that in the end is what business is. If they do it right they will succeed and if not failure is the only result.
