McDonald's coming to Vietnam

Full story: Lonely Planet

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. Heard today from someone who's father works for the government in Hanoi that the Golden Arches will be opening in HCMC in April 2008. via Lonely Planet

You're in Asia, you idiot. Specifically, southeast Asia, home to the most complex and incredible food on earth. Hopefully McDonalds won't take off and damage traditional eating like it already has in China. Trying actually eating Vietnamese food. Jeez.

Vietnamese food is good if you want diahrea. Mcdonalds will bring good food quality to your table.

I'm looking forward to mc'pho and mc broken rice. Yummy.

It'd be huge hit, once it arrives.

Northern Chinese food is crap. McDonalds coming in was a great thing.

What's the evidence that McDonalds has damaged traditional eating in China? Not trying to be provocative and I've no interest in supporting McDonalds, just interested to know.

As of Jan24, 2009 there is no mcdonalds and there will not be mcdonalds in VN for at least 5 + years. Fact : the return on investment just isnt there, and thats what its all about. period. when it is PROFITABLE..they will come. not before. Enjoy yor Pizza Hut, KFC, lotteria, Jollibee, because thats ALL there is for western fast food here in HCMC. Most , but not all, Vietnamese food is nasty and un hygenicallly prepared. Best VN food can be found in California. The ingedients and and preperation are the key. Taco Bell will be a big hit here when it comes. Dist. 1,3,5 Anh Phu and Phu My Hung HCMC RULE and if you are in VN and dont live in one of these places you suck and will get no respect from anyone ! Have fun tourists !

The Fish, you are clearly a moron. For one thing KFC etc. are already turning a profit here, so where you got your 5+ years from I have no idea. Unless you are privy to extensive feasibility studies for Mcdonald's we are not aware of?

Secondly saying the best VN food is in California is the most blatantly ridiculous and stupid thing I have ever heard. It's like saying the best Aboriginal cave art was done by Druids. I've had loads of Vietnamese food in the west and it's nothing like here. It's shit. Also I guarantee you the ingredients, which you say are key, will never be fresher than those found in the VN markets and food stalls.

Finally, "Dist. 1,3,5 Anh Phu and Phu My Hung HCMC RULE and if you are in VN and dont live in one of these places you suck and will get no respect from anyone"... I'm not even going to start with that one. I think the statement highlights your own ignorance and stupidity. In short, fuck off back to California or wherever you came from and eat some Mcdonald's Pho. Moron.

I dont live in any of the places you say get respect- Therefore I must be a piece of poop! Well, I seem to get my share of respect for a piece of poop!
All the WHIMPS live in those areas because they don't have the guts to try a little bit of "local" living.Surrounded by other "tay" and sipping their imported wines whilst complaining that everyone in Vietnam doesnt speak perfect English, therefore they are backward.
Anyway, re McD- Why the hell would any person who likes real food want to eat that crap anyway!(Bulls dicks, cows udders, ears, snotty noses). Why did we all leave our western homelands? To experience some exotic local stuff, including the food-right?
Fish in KFC is an OPTION-You have to ask for it. Dont ask, you wont get. What happened to your brain? Did you leave it in a McDonalds?
Best Viet food in California? DER! see above.

I just returned to Vancouver, BC from my trip to Vietnam. I stayed in HCMC. As of March 2009, there are no McDonald's restaurants...thank god! Troi oi! If McDonald's is coming to VN, I know my relatives are smart enough to stay away from that shit. Why put that garbage in your mouth and into your body when the local street vendors make the best Banh Mi (VN sandwich) I've ever had in my life!?! I think the Banh Mi in VN is way better than the ones I've had in Vancouver. The same goes for a lot of other foods I've had in VN. The best thing about the foods at local restaurants and markets is that they don't have the hundreds of added chemicals and additives that McDonald's puts in their "food". I wouldn't even call McDonald's menu items as "food". McDonald's is more like good tasting poison. So please McDonald's...stay away from Vietnam. People there are beautiful, lean, healthy (if non-smoker/non-drinker) and don't suffer from diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol as much as people in the west...mainly Americans...if you're American, don't be offended but you know Americans are fat. Child obesity is on the rise and the "fast" foods that children eat are kiiling them.
As a Vietnamese person living in Canada, I hope and pray that McDonald's does not come to Vietnam. Let's keep the Vietnamese people young looking, healthy and lean...let's keep McDonald's out of VN.

Daily Horoscope for January 6

Capricorn

Don't let anyone stand in the way of your progress and don't reveal personal secrets. You could very easily become run down at the moment. An empty promise could leave you feeling sad. If you're working today, there could be some problems: stick to your own work and make sure that someone doesn't try to take credit for your efforts.
