There's no free lunch; maybe not even a cheap one

What does Chainsaw Jerry have to say about this? I am sure he can come up with a plan. Why not start school after lunch? That way the kids can get their rest & the school saves.

I don't know who chainsaw jerry is....but I am a little tired of this free and reduced lunch crap. Why is it that people are able to have a kid, not pay the hospital bill, then are not required to pay for anything the kid needs? I don't, of course, want the child to suffer, but for Christ's sake, I see alot of these parents that qualify for these benefits drinking and smoking, I think we could see them coughing up $2 a day to feed their kids. Of course, it's more like $10 a day since they have to feed all 5 of the kids they can't pay for.

1. If everyone abstained from sex and waited until they were independently wealthy before procreating, the human race would have gone extinct a few thousand years ago.

2. Lots of families who are now poor were not poor before NAFTA, GATT resulting in the great American jobs give-away. At that same time, Reagan saw fit to eliminate CETA. CETA provided limited term subsidized employment for the poor who otherwise did not have the social connections that facilitate hiring opportunities in order to gain work experience; the chance for job opportunities in a society that has always socially excluded and looked down on the poor.(You know, those who can't afford the "right image", who live in the "wrong" neighborhoods, etc)

But don't worry. If the eugenics-promoting globalist Scrooge class has their way, those who are being excluded from chances for jobs in the "new economy" because of age, disability, gender, and social class-based discrimination will be rounded up in FEMA camps and exterminated. Does that make you happy?

How many of them have big screen tv's, I pods, eat at chain rest. twice a week, have expensive cell phone plans....my kids by choice packed peanut butter and jelly a piece of fruit and some crackers, everyday for lunch, thay hated waited in line for theat nasty stuff, and who knows what new food recall there was. PB & J is pritty cheap ...

Well a lot of these parents already have foodstamps so why not pack their children's lunches; it is like we are paying for them twice. The other thing is that in Jim Thorpe they also have a program called Shine that they feed these children dinner so what are their foodstamps being used for??????? The school provides 2 and sometimes 3 meals a day for these children.

The definition of "poor" in the US is an odd one. Many (not all!) so-called "poor" have all of the great "gotta have it" luxuries that other "poor" people in other countries can only dream of. Let's start the list - cell phones, new TV's, leased cars that they can't afford, vacations (because they deserve it!) and so on... add to the list.

The fact that we feel sorry for those schemer types and reward and subsidize them makes it that much harder on those who are truly having problems with making ends meet and literally have nothing. Some folks have it really hard with issues related to health and such, others just know how to play the game.

Please explain in detail, why if families had to be paying OVER $10/gal for gas right now, they would be better off?

What you so conveniently like to forget, is that NAFTA also brings us cheap oil from Canada. Do you even realize that the foreign country from which we import the MOST oil, is not anywhere in the Middle East, but from Canada? NAFTA requires Canada to sell us all that oil, and at prices far, far below today's barrel prices. If it wasn't for all the cheap oil thru NAFTA, gas prices would already be over $10, and that, my friend, is NOT good for families already struggling.

Amen for you true positive comments StaberDearth. Just go to Jim Thorpe and watch the kids get off the bus and you will see designer sneakers, cell phones, Ipods alone other luxury items. If they can't afford kids they shouldn't have them. Don't put the blame on the society because of their problems.

No free lunch? It seems alot of my hard earned tax dollars are providing just that to illegals and other folks not, let's give it a nice name, productively contributing to American society and culture.

It doesn't matter what side of evolution you are own...you just can't please everyone. I know of a person that was dirt poor and was taking advantage of every free program the gov'f offered. Couple of years later this person hit the state lottery and from a relative of this newly rich, I was told that he goes around bashing the poor people and making remarks how lazy and inept the poor class is, along with a few bigoted statements, he even has his new neighbors believing that he was wealthy all his life, from hard work...hah... but it was one of the dollars from a free govt program that helped him buy that lottery ticket!!

I'm not conservative. I'm moderate. I actually take time to research and study an issue before making a decision. Jackie baby, I hire people for a living, and guess what?? I dont run a credit check on my future hires, I do run Background, Mvr express and I need a SS number to do that otherwise there would be 50 thousand reports for one name..Running a credit check is usually done for higher management whom may handle money, make decisions, especially if comdata cards are involved, etc etc. So I dont discriminate AGE, or Credit, becuse most of the people today carry an average or below average credit rating, which is just as screwed up as other things, believe me on that...
