Interesting stuff, but why the emphasis on weight loss? Some of these studies have shown health improvements with no significant change in weight. And, anything more than twenty pounds "lost" is likely to result in resetting to a higher setpoint, and binging during refeeding (and therefore probably abandoning the alternate-day plan altgether.) Everybody knows fatness is not intrinsically unhealthy, so why not talk about health instead of focusing on mere appearance?

The system is quite sound. It remains to customize the calorie intake for both days.

It is essential that the dieter consume the same higher allowance on each "up" day, and the same lower allowance on each "down" day -- consistently, throughout the diet. This will prevent a regain of weight at the diet's end.

Addendum: The up and down days should always alternate; that is, every other Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, etc., should be a down day.
