Maybe people "making near the minimum wage" might steal food because they are HUNGRY and maybe they are also trying to feed their own children on a wage nobody could live on. Maybe the minimum wage is too low. Anyone who puts in an honest 40 hour week deserves to be paid enough to feed themselves, their family and put a roof over their head and receive health care.

Now, a Republican will hear what I just said as, "lazy people deserve Cadillacs and yearly vacations on the French Riviera", or at least that's what they'll pretend they heard. Repugs are just plain cruel people. I especially wonder how they can call themselves Christian but forget Jesus' message: "what you do to the least of these, you have done to me".

Would be more effective if they gave people a job, an have them hand students food from behind a counter. It would cut their loss down 90% overnight, an not give the students a chance to steal. I doubt a camera will stop it.

Some of these kids are probably being punks,
on the other hand I bet some of these kids aren't sent to school with enough money for lunch and/or are embarrassed about getting free and reduced foods from the school.

I would like to add that not having enough money to buy the food does not justify stealing, and the kids need to be taught that lesson, and taught not to feel so ashamed or getting reduced food tokens.

Can anyone tell me / provide a single justification for children being hungry in this country? Go on, give me one valid justification for kids being hungry in America? I dare you!
If a kid takes more food than is allocated to him/her, could it be - just possibly, that they're not getting what they need at home? With energy and commodity prices having gone through the roof, many households are feeling the pinch today - more than any time since the 1930's. Perhaps that school district should spend the money they're allocating on video [and someone to review it] on more food for the kids. Maybe - just maybe, we should review our priorities. Maybe we should consider a wind-fall profit tax on Exxon-Mobile and allocate the revenues to feed OUR kids.
Maybe something's seriously wrong in this country - do you think?

Fair enough. You won't mind paying $10 for a Big Mac to allow those McDs employees to make a living wage, now will you?

Whats wrong with this country is bleeding heart liberal socialists like you who think a kid is entitled to a free lunch just because his mommy or daddy is lazy and doesn't work or doesn't make enough money or spends all their money on beer and cigarettes and lotto tickets. Let the kid get a job. If their in high school there old enough to work!

I want to make it clear that the disgusting post at #6 with the name "Patrick" is NOT me. Someone must think it's funny to post that hateful garbage under my name.

Hey Patrick I know in your world Republicans are all evil at least thats waht you've been indocrinated to believe by your peer group. Let me tell you what Republicans believe to set the record straight since you have distorted what the simple Republican message is. Individual liberty, personal responsibility and private property. Thats about it.Now if you continue to lie about what Republicans believe I will continue to convey this message to you.

Less money for drugs, and they would have enough for food.

Way to go Patrick, I totally agree. I work my butt off every day for my tax $$$'s to go and feed the kids of parents who are lazy, undereducated, and in many cases illegal. It is not my problem and not my financial responsibility. Maybe if they send the illegals and their illegal children and anchor babies back to their respective countries, there would be less food consumption and more food and $$ for the program, and less kids to feed. Also if they cracked down on public aid when people are selling link card money and buying drugs and alcohol with the money instead of feeding their kids, things would change. I know my brother although I disagree buys link card money all the time. He gets $400 in groceries for $200. And the $200 the link card recipient receives goes to drugs and alcohol and none of the remaining $200 goes to their kids food. If they spend the $400 on the kids food like they are supposed to (aid programs are designed to keep kids from going hungry in this country, not to feed able bodied adults). things would change.

Simple solution: go back to serving the slop I had to gag down in high school. Theft will stop immediately. Kids will have a hard enough time making themselves eat enough not to pass out in the afternoon; they certainly won't want to be stealing extra.

So, the kids not only cheat in class but also in the lunch line. Such fine upstanding citizens we have.

By the way, this debate over Democratic "they must be hungry" vs. Republican "they have lazy unemployed daddies" is nonsense. Does anyone really believe that these kids are stealing this food because they're actually hungry? I mean, hungry as in, don't get enough food, not hungry as in, can eat six double cheeseburgers without coming up for air. I don't know about every nook and cranny of Fairfax County, VA, but overall I think it's a pretty well-off area. I'm sure most of these kids get plenty of food at home and generous allowances from their parents to buy food at school. They steal it because hey, who doesn't like "free" stuff? Or because it's cool to show off to their buddies how slick they are. Or because they're the cool kids who know the other kids won't rat them out. Or because they're a bunch of entitled brats who think the world is theirs for the taking.

Typical liberal who blames everything on the Republicans. Calling Republicans "cruel" is the same as calling Democrats "lazy".

This is so true...if you justify your actions enough then its OK. I am hungry or dont want to pay so Im going to steal....I want this PS3 so Im going to kill someone as they walk out of the store for it. People..Adults and Children need to be accountable for their actions. Not excuses made for them.
