I ate poptarts, mcdonalds and pretty much everything that was unhealthy as a kid. Everything is fine and my health/weight are completely normal.

As a parent, its whatever keeps the kids happy and quiet. If cookies and soda keeps them happy and quiet, enjoy your oreos and pepsi. you want 10 cupcakes? go right ahead, son.

you all worry too much. stop watching dr phil for parenting advice.

dont worry-be happy

I'm confused, we needed a study to tell us what is already obvious? Hope it wasn't more then the cost of a happy meal!

Back then being a responsible parent was a lot of work.
It STILL is. That's why most kids are a mess like their parents. 50% divorce rate--a life of fast-food garbage masquerading as food--kids left to fend for themselves---there oughta be a law...

Lets have a study to determine "Why we need so many studies to tell us what we already know." I'm sure we can find some obnoxious loons to do that for us!

SOLUTION: Cook at home.
Cooking at home shows children it takes a bit of planning and it can be less expensive. Yes, it does take time to prepare and clean up afterward, but that's part of being a family: cooperation.
Couldn't have said it better. And the added benefit of kids who actually learn to cook as they get older. Nothing like a grown up who can't cook for themselves.

Yes! Do you remember "heart attack on a plate" ...fettuccini alfredo? What about movie theater popcorn? They have changed the way we think about food, for the better. Still, no one is going to eat anything that isn't tasty. Unfortunately, fat, salt and calories seem mighty appealing. To this day, I will never forget eating my first Big Mac. Yes, celery and carrot sticks have a certain appeal, when dipped into something creamy, but unless I'm super hungry, I'll pass on those in favor of a rich calorie laden offering.

Thin people seem to have thin offspring. Heavier people are bound to have children that could shed a few. Some of that is genetics, some of it is exercise (or lack thereof), however I do not believe that the occasional donut, taco or cheese burger is the main reason for increasing obesity in this country.
