Sounds like it will be a lot of fun and yes tamales are a big tradition in the Hispanic culture in December and just about anytime there is a fiesta. In December there are also Las Posadas, bunelos, arroz con leche, luminarias, the pilgrimage to la Virgen Guadalupe, villancios, etc. So far I've heard about this event from my friends in Silver City and media coverage. Seems to be very well planned by your committee. Good luck on your "first ever" Tamale Fiesta.

Shouldn't a "Tamale" fiesta be held in Deming instead of Silver's artsy fartsy?

how gauche and disrespectful to the Kingdom of the Sun...yachhh...not that GOOD TAMALES ARE NOT MADE IN DEMING. You said it: beans go with tamales and beans are ARTSY-FARTSY a-la-grande so a bigger, more classy place is required. So hush your mouth and SMELL the tamales!TRAVEL THROUGH THE GILA.

Oye, Nuevo Mexico, para que lo sepas:

Tamal: Singular

Tamales: Plural

Get it right!

"Get it right" mira, mira que mentecato tu.

Invitame.

What do we know, right? We only INVENTED the freaking language!
If you are going to try to write in castellano (there are 4 kinds of "Spanish", castellano, euskara, catalan and galego) go back to school and, once more, GET IT RIGHT! LOL. 1) Mucho muy propio?
In what universe? It's EEUU in the rest of the world, including the "Spanish" speaking one. "tu un poco latente"? "Profe no" WTF? "pertenece a la vida de los hispanos...". I taught newly arrived children from Mexico, and their language skills, reading, writing, arithmetic, science, etc. WERE SUPERIOR to that of U.S. children. It was only when they were thrown into the Albuquerque Public Schools and exposed to "cooperative learning", on top of trying to learn a new language (English) that the poor kids got all screwed up. You are being the product of provincial thinking that holds you back. Language is a fluid thing. When you try to attempt to hold it back in some backwater and keep it from growing, you get Latin, a dead language even the Catholic Church no longer uses in its masses. Yo siempre estoy aprendiendo. Practica lo que pregones, mamporrero. Look THAT up in some internet dictionary! LOL. Stay stupid, I don't care. "El que no oye consejo, no llega a viejo".

mira que la edad ya me cuenta entre los ancianos, mas, todavia, entre los anticuados. BLAME BLAME Game I see. When will the Mexican population let their young ones progress as desired? The child needs to open their minds and realize that ENGLISH, is the language needed to progress in this society. The power the USA held over the world made its language a universal necessity. Blame whatever learning program you want, it is the parents who hold the key to their children's success. When in Rome do as the Romans. Mexican education is more concentrated than USA's but it is certainly NOT BETTER, get that false notion out of you ego, that's all it is. Granted, we're talking about, Spanish only, teenagers with a strong alliance to Spanish and it's superior knowledge but if in ROME must learn the colloquial form of communication. USA English it is. The brain will automatically translate that knowledge but to be dismayed that the learning does not necesarilly apply with USA classrooms. Again, do as the Romans, change strategy and find out you can still progress and even surpass. Not many families are taking advantage. Look at the DROP-OUT rate for us, Hispanics. APS is trying to have a better bilingual program but has too many 'EXPERTS'. You one of 'em?

No. APS has got their own screwy way of doing things, including cooperative learning for students who come here conditioned to the old way of teaching kids. But, to get on to your points. Actually those wanting their children to have a better chance at getting ahead in the world will make sure their children learn one of the major Chinese dialects such as Mandarin, or Russian, or even Portuguese to take advantage of Brazil's exploding economy. The USA is sadly in a downward spiral from which it will take decades to recover, if ever. We, the USA, are the new "Carthage" and China and Russia are the new "Rome" and they will defeat us economically and militarily while our prima dona morons in Washington D.C. are too busy profiting from insider trading and graft from lobbyists to ensure the government remains ineffective and stays off their clients' backs. Who would be to blame if not those people who run the cluster-folks everyone calls "government"?

Tamales: the only good part is the corn husk. Tried to get a cat to eat one and she covered it with sand. Maybe Deming does deserve this.

''Tamale Fiesta set for Dec. 10''

Your way off topic, perhaps the schools you attended did not teach you how to stay on topic.

Let the Fiesta begin.

I am looking forward to this fiesta. I hope that it turns out as good as it is sounding to be. Some of the local schools will even be dancing and performing. We will see.

Tamales??? Oh I bet all the greesers will come out for that? Will they accept Food Stamps? That is the only money the Mexican's around here have in their pockets. I hate the wetback Tamales and the Meudo sewer food they make, but again they all eat out of the same bowl afterall, shows who is on the bottom of the social ladder in this community

Thats one thing about Topix, it always proves that racism is a staple product of Southwestern New Mexico. One racist remark from one side always draws the cream of the crop from the other side. You're BOTH racists!

There are two people using the title''Old Man''. I would not want any one to think the original Old Man would ever write something so mean and hateful.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aquarius

The emotional atmosphere is quite potent under this Lunar Eclipse, evoking a sense of crisis. The problems you've been experiencing with a certain person lately come to a head during the next fortnight, making you feel that you have to take drastic action or lay down the law. Yet this could make the situation worse than ever, especially if you act from a sense of panic or desperation. Take things gently and don't throw your weight around unless it's absolutely necessary.
