I enjoyed the previous resturant in this same place.
Really nice people. I miss them.
$7.99 for a taco plate. I remember when you could
get a decent T-bone with all the trimmings for that.
But, all the same....good luck.

1 Well, would it be anything else? We're here for you, Carlos. Is this where the ex-Tegmeyer's owner opened up shop and biffed it after only a few months? If so, I also miss the Tegmeyer's staff - always friendly and welcoming. Yeah,$7.99 for a taco plate - seems like a rip for a blob of meat, cheap shreds of iceberg lettuce, and some salsa. I'll continue to just cook my own feasts at home and maybe go out for a monthly splurge to someplace special with an exciting atmosphere and varied menu - not a freakin' taco plate. |

1 "the Vegetarianos ($7.95), a vegetarian taco made with green bell peppers, avocado, onions and mushrooms. The Santa Fe special ($7.99) has a mixture of five different meats: pork, beef, ham, bacon and chorizo." So what you're offering is a taco stuffed with a few vegetables for just about 8 bucks, or for four cents more I can get a taco stuffed with a bunch of meat? For eight bucks, I can go to the flea market and buy a box of fresh vegetables and a big stack of tortillas - enough to last me over a week. Sorry. I realize the vast majority of your expected clientele are not vegetarians, but I think you just lost those of us who are. |

This is an original spot and deserves a try.

1 I hear there is a SCORE.org office in the area that will give free business advice to new businesses who want to last more that the standard 2 year cut off point at which a majority of start-ups have to close their doors. The economic concerns listed by others in the forum cannot be ignored. Maybe post a link with a discount coupon or B1G1 offer in the paper to get people in the door. Or get one onto the lascrucesclicks site. |

1 Red Apple needs to get on the obituary page soon and stop wasting our air in Dona Ana County. Then and only then will we applaude something written about his miserable and dour life. |

Okay, is Carlos or his mom dissing comments with the little peanuts, lemons and bulbs?
|
||||
b!tch b!tch b!tch, you're just mad because you can't afford to eat there. Continue eating your frozen dinners, and frozen veggies. |
||||
If you only knew what that kind of chili is really good for. |

Congratulations to this new restaurant, I've tried it and the food is really good!! Yeah, tacos for eight bucks(COMPLAINERS)but so much is given you need a doggy bag to take the rest of it home. Quit complaining, at least people are still trying to make something of themselves and not expecting us taxpayers to support them!!!
|
||||
So hey, who's begging you to go?!? |
||||
Well, probably the new restaurant owners. If I were starting out with a brand new restaurant I'd try to come up with some enticing grand opening offers to get people in the door. Yet another burrito shop selling 8-buck (wow!) tacos (and equally priced vegetarian options) just doesn't sound like it's worth my time. There's a reason most new eateries fold within the first year and two of those reasons are written right here in the review. |

A taco shop...in Las Cruces? Original? Really? |

Ms. Evans seemed to reflect what the majority feel...Red Apple appears to be just a dour old man with nothing good to say and severely influenced by his meds. Maybe his wifey needs to unplug his access to embarassing what is left of his estate.
It is one sad situation to keep reading such poorly thought and weak mental comments. Next he is going to claim to be military and deserving of more welfare hand outs. |
||||
Again, my point is who's putting a gun to your head to go there, you shouldn’t be-little the place if you've not eaten there regardless what the reviews say, da*mn! |

My GOD the review by Gabriel Vasquez in the Las Cruces Bulletin (page C11) this morning made this place sound like an incredibly different experience. To summarize: Authentic like the guilty pleasure of eating at hole-in-the-wall places and street carts south of the border without the risk of being taken out by rogue drug cartel members. Now if you go visit the other paper's website you can see if the meatier dishes are worth a drive around the corner without the expense of gas and tolls required in crossing the international bridges.

You're absolutely right. If I truly want to share a genuine opinion of this place I have to go there myself and check it out. However, most of the comments in this thread revolve around what was written in the review...8 bucks for a taco plate, yet another taco shop with nothing but tacos on the menu, blah blah blah. The restaurant probably requested a newspaper review to get their name out there and get people in the door, but based on the review this place just doesn't appeal to me. More of the same old, same old. Someone else commented about getting such a large serving that they had to bring leftovers home in a bag. Another turn off! I'm repulsed by the new American standard of restaurants serving double and even triple size portions - is it just me, or has anyone noticed the abundance of fat slobs walking around? I like going to restaurants for something different, for good food that I can't make as well at home, and for an interesting atmosphere - not to sit at a plastic table and end up taking half of my food home in a styrofoam box. Serve food in normal, human-size meal portions and knock a couple bucks off the price. |
||||
I'm not mad about anything and I'm not gonna pay 8 dollars for a taco (and not because I can't afford it, but because I'm economically smart) when I can go to the lunch buffet at Taste of India and for the exact same price delight myself with the dozen or so choices they offer. It's all-you-can-eat and the food is delicious, but one visit to the trough is usually enough for me. Alas, they don't serve tacos or burritos and the menu items don't have some catchy Spanish name, so the general population tends to avoid this place out of ignorance and confusion. |
||||
The last I checked, "that kind of chili" was useful for making solutions to keep birds out of fruit trees and barnacles off ships' hulls, and torturing suspected terrorists. |
