the only reason the atkins diet has fast results is this:
you are supposed to get getting energy from carbohydrates and using protein for building and repairing tissues.
when you aren't getting the energy from carbs, it's coming from your dietary protein (and when you run out of that, your body protein-organs like your heart). it takes a lot of work to turn protein into a form of energy the body can use, and all this work dehydrates you. you lose WATER weight on the atkins diet, as well as a lot of electrolytes which isn't good. that would explain why this article says the individuals gained more weight back eventually on atkins.
