It's hilarious that Pollan feels that the USDA is beholden to big business, but that the FDA isn't. Food advocacy will never be free of special interests, in or out of government. Therefore the best approach is the most diverse: Let a million special interests participate in the shoving match, and let consumers do bests to extract truth from this dialectic. In other words: less (central authority) government, more (choice) market.
