I went to school there for a long time, also. So, I'd love to chat with someone from Sopchoppy! Anyone? Hello? Beuller? I'm an Alabama girl myself. I'm from Hatchechubbee, Russell County. Where's that you asked? Well, it's between Three Notch and Hurtsboro..as for the pe-can, I thought that was something mama put under the bed at night when it was too cold to go to the out house....

You know if the truth be told on this subject, I was born and raised in this state, lived here, well I won't go that far, but, I will say this much, I never heard of Key Lime Pie until I was grown and married and went to some rich folks home for a meal. At all our family gatherings, you found, pumpkin, sweet taters, lemon merinque, coconut cream, and squash pies. If it was a very good year, pecans were bought and shelled for the pie, but, it had to be a VERY GOOD YEAR! Sooo, guess my vote don't count..(I still love all the above, and I still think I am a true floridian)

(Not trying to be snippy, I'm truly curious) Isn't this a "Sopchoppy" forum-message board? ....getting confused now....lol I'm in NY and found this forum through Ocoee website. I know exactly where Sopchoppy is. On my honeymoon, we drove right through it. We found St. Andrews State park that weekend and took the kids there every year camping. North FL is the BOMB. And as for this silly a**ed pie thing, well GA isn't a part of FL so make it key lime for me.

Well now, my family on Mama's side has been reseyedn up in the panhandle since prior to us getting statehood the first time. Don't get me wrong or nutt'n but I just love me a big ole piece of some of Granny's pecan pie. Key lime pie was for all them furreners who lived on down state.
I have since lived in the 'Keys' a couple of three times and learned that Key Lime Pie is a gift from the above to the South of Florida.
Sopchoppy, I know where that is, been there. Ocoee, the same thing, St Andrews State Park, my sister lives just a little piece from the front gate.
Pecans are a large agricultural crop to the northern tier of the state, the Renfroe pecan store in Pensacola is a wonderful place. Key limes from the keys, although I think that most of the production today is grown in Mexico, are a unique product and add to the economy of the South of Florida.
Which would I chose? If family and heritage were the factors, then Pecan. If uniqueness and originalily, then Key Lime. Damn, this is hard. No wonder the folks in T'hassee are having such a hard time.

Personally, I am from Maryland and I have only heard of Key Lime Pie being popular in Florida - I never knew pecan pie was a specialty here.
I've never had it and have no clue what it tastes like, but I say stick with the Key Lime Pie.
No other state has the Keys, but plenty of states have pecans - the Keys with the Key Lime Pie make Florida unique.

I wish they could've compromised and just added pecans to the key lime pie :)

No Doubt Key Lime Pie. Florida and Key Lime Pie go hand in hand. I never thought there would be such a dilema over which pie.

They already did it, it's called "The Island of Dr. Moreau" and Catdog on Nickelodeon. If you knew what life was worth you would look for yours on Earth. -Bob Marley SuperNannyForPresident wrote: It's called adding a little fun your day. i have also debated a few school kids on here on what would happen if you put a cat egg in a dog or mixed a cat and dog or something like that over on Biology. Just for fun. Catdog mix, animal who hates it's self. Lighten up a bit
