Our backyard persimmon tree, an Hachiya, is heavy with fruit. Clusters of five to six softball-size orange fruits located near the ends of the branches cause them to cross and tangle, bending with weight almost to the breaking point.

I think that the second picture is of the fuyu variety.

Persimmons are one of my favorite fruit. I especially like to eat Fuyu raw. They have a taste that suits the season--one of pumpkins. I'm assuming because of the orange color that that is the flavor of carotine--as in carrots. I find the fruit as well as the trees beautiful.

The sino-japanese heritage and links to california agriculture and mandarins are interesting too.

I'm having difficulty finding the Fuyu Persimmon Relish recipe as mentioned in the Sweet Basil and the Bee section dated November 18th in the Chico ER. Any suggestions?
