It is refreshing to know how much Chico is self sufficient on our local agriculture. Reassuring in a lot of ways. We are so fortunate to live in such a diverse community. It seems to produce diverse people and the way they think is also that way. Our local farmers can be given a lot of credit for their creativity over the years. A lot has sprung forth here very close to and in Chico.
I am glad Organic farming is flourishing and the farmers have no qualms of admitting how mush damage has been done with the use of chemicals in the past.

I'm glad we are back to calling them prunes instead of "dried plums". That's the kind of stuff you pay your farm bureau for.

Juanita you are right about the Farm Bureau, it is as its name implies just another politicized bureaucratic gaggle of parasites, made up of farmer wannabees. The same can be said about the Agricultural Commissioners office. They hide behind a stack of pamphlets that were printed for 4H'S just coming out of the "Dust Bowl" of the 1930's. Explaining how to build a chicken coop.
If all goes well the tourists will be happy to get a job in the local agricultural fields. Sure as hell CSUC will either be to expensive to go to or be totally kicked out of the public trough altogether. The CSUC system has pooped in its own nest. Turning out quantity rather than quality. When there are no jobs. If Benny Laden were not a laughing I would be surprised.

It's interesting to think those trees on highway 113 were used by horse riders for shade. Thirty miles of travel in a entire day by horse...

Why exactly is that?

1949 - who are these "wannabees"? Perhaps you'd like to ask Rich McGowan that. I believe he is a member and a director.

As a passenger on bus #4 of the tour yesterday, I would like to give my compliments to the Farm City Celebration committee and participating presenters for their hard work putting together such a fun and informative day.

I would like to point out a tiny error in the ER story regarding the pollination of pistachios: It should read one male TREE (rather than bee) for every 25 female trees required for wind pollination.

Oh, I'm from Chico, not Oroville! I don't know why Oroville appears on my post above as there wasn't an input box on the form for city.

Another tiny error for the ER to fix!

Once again, you never cease to amaze myself and the 90% that read or respond to your ill-informed nonsense. You have no clue what so ever with respect to farm bureau. Farm bureau is made up of farmers, citizens, and businesses that support agriculture through its suppliers, sales, or products. Even organic growers, numbnuts to please you. These so-called "wannabe farmers" are helping keep the local economy afloat, buying vehicles, tractors, steel, nuts and bolts, and the list goes on.
They are helping to keep people employed such as irrigation suppliers, fertilizer, seed, tractor companies, local hardware suppliers, banking, tree nurseries, farm employees, weights/measurement companies, trucking companies, food processing facilities, and university research to name a few. You live in a narrow minded environment which is disturbing that you might live in a close proximity to myself.
If you despise farmers so much get the hell out of here, MOVE to Portland, Or or the Bay area where you might find someone who will deal with your miserable arse.
Your nonsense about CSUC is not clear what the heck you mean by it.
You are probably jealous or miserable through your own choices in life that you "Don't have a row to hoe"

Actually, a CSUC graduate that is successful as a result of CSUC, and is gainfully employed locally.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Libra

If you're invited to a party or gathering today and you don't know whether to go, you should. You'll have a terrific time and you might meet someone who always makes your knees go weak. Even if it's a perfectly harmless flirtation and you're both happily committed to other people, it will still do your ego good to have a tantalizing conversation with this person.
