Soutwestern Flare? Must be Southwest Indiana and who know where you are from. Ate there once...bad service, expensive so called Burritos and certainly no Southwest Flare.

It's fine. Many other food outlets outshine it for a multitude of reasons. The place should drop it's claim as a bakery or step up to the plate.

Article headline: The Shed puts Southwestern flare put on traditional breakfast and lunch plates

WTF? Sounds like Carlos is wearing WAY MORE than the required 37 pieces of flair.

The Shed has been on my list of places to check out for 2 years now and their food does sound pretty good. Unfortunately, it seems like every time I'm in the area and pass by the place is freakin' closed. Eventually I've just forgotten about it.

I ate at the one the use to have in Mesilla. So, so, and I think it's over rated and a place where the yuppie Cali crowd goes. I know the owner, grew up with him, and his twist on the Southwest Las Cruces food scene is far from authentic, but interesting. His mom made some awesome Mexican food!

So...you ate at the one in Mesilla a few years ago...what a perfect qualification for judging what The Shed is about 3 years later. Jeez, thank for the insight.
A "twist" on Southwestern is by it's nature NOT same-old some-old, so what, exactly does authentic have to do with it?
Oh..I know..it's not what you're used to in every "authentic" (a highly subjective term) LC restaurant. Widen the horizons a little bit, Jnnm, and explore beyond the same old slop. What's "authentic" in many LC area Mexican restaurants is second-rate food, service and atmosphere, so there's a chance you might even like something new if you actually tried it.
I eat at The Shed every so often (neither yuppie or Cali here) and the food is reliably good quality and -hold onto your hat- creative, which is something sorely lacking in our town.
I do agree with the other post that they should either step up the bakery side of the biz or drop it, but I think they'd have to add onto the place to do so. It's usually pretty full of customers as it is.
There's a big sign at the front door, visible from a car on Valley, that spells out the Shed's hours. Anyone who can read can figure out when they're open or closed and plan accordingly.
I'll continue to make my about once a week visit for breakfast or lunch.

This coming from someone who lives in the ice age of AOL. Sticking with the same-old, same-old because it is a routine does not make it worth time or money. Internet provider OR restaurants.

Keep going to the Shed. I will enjoy the breakfast at the Sunset Grill and enjoy the view and extra change with the bill.

The Shed has crappy food, crappy service, and an elitist work crew and primarily all white patrons. I'm not racist & am white, but I was appalled at how they treated Hispanics in there like 3rd class citizens. The customers were just as bad staring down their noses too. They should offer white hoods at the door and fly a Confederate Flag. I felt like I was in KKK territory.

Break an Egg beats them, hands down.

My husband and I usually go to the Shed once a week. And my daughters love the red chile eggs benedict. Their posole is great tasting and the article didn't mention that they almost always have a breakfast special and a lunch special. The lunch specials range from brisket tacos to ahi tuna. The service sometimes is so-so, but we like the food.

Don't know about the KKK territory but have to agree with you about Break and Egg. Now that is a GREAT place to eat and very reasonably priced!

la mosca ate at The Shed, once, hoping it would be a new place to frequent, was disgusted with the food, and hey...I'm a mosca, not too picky.
So, still wanting to have another place to frequent, waited a couple of months and went again, guess what, it was worse the second time, and more expensive to boot.

NEVER MORE, and my advice to anyone else, don't waste your time, of course this is only my opinion.

Looks like you're the proud holder of the moron award since you called someone a moron who complained just like you complained.

Same now as it was then smart a s s!

Lots when you know how this area's Mexican food should taste - i.e., authentic according to my life here and knowning what authentic is and isn't for Las Cruces! No one said "twist" is authentic, but it isn't!
-------Widen the horizons a little bit, Jnnm, and explore beyond the same old slop.----
You should practice what you preach.

I'm sorry!

I'm curious about comparing opinions of Pancake Alley on West Picacho. This place is by far the biggest ripoff in town for typical, mediocre food. I went in early 2008 and was so put off by the prices and quality of food I swore "never again", but I'm a sucker for supporting local commerce and went back again this past weekend. Now really, NEVER AGAIN. While the atmosphere and menu looks all jazzy and fun, the food is unspectacular and cheap - yet the menu prices do not match the value of their food. Almost three dollars for a side order of toast? Same for a cup of weak, Folgers-style coffee. One flapjack, four dollars? They also offer a breakfast burrito (typical tortilla with eggs, cheese, ham) for a whopping $8.69. Are you freakin' kidding me? The one fair-priced item I ordered, the hash browns at $2.69, were clearly just a slab of frozen, pre-fabbed potato product and arrived on my plate half-cooked.

While the service was prompt and what you might call friendly, all the waitresses seemed to have their energy dials turned up past 11 when a 7 or 8 would have sufficed. I don't need to have someone smiling right in my face or shouting to me from across the dining room to ask if I need anything. My dining companion commented how how our server seemed like she was on crack or something. How this place stays afloat is beyond me and I feel raped after my last visit there. I will never return again.

I went to the Pancake Alley once and it was nothing to write home about, service slower than slow, and not worth what is charged either. I won't go back, and to think what a place like that could become!

I hear that there is a place on El Paseo called Hot Rod's (I think that is the name) that is suppose to be really good and very price friendly. That is where I'm heading next.
