Chick-Fil-A Responds to McDonald's Copy-Cat Sandwich. FastFoodCritic.com Exclusive.

Full story: fastfoodcritic.com

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past couple weeks, you’ve probably seen and heard the advertisements for McDonald’s new “Southern Style” chicken sandwich and biscuit. You might have even tried it already. And if you’re a fan of Chick-Fil-A, you are probably thinking that Ronald McDonald found a way to infiltrate the CFA headquarters and sneak away with the secret recipe, because the new sandwich from McDonald’s is so similar it could be the long-lost brother of the legenday Chick-Fil-A sandwich. How did this happen? What does CFA think about it? That’s what I wanted to know, so during my recent conversation with CFA's Corporate PR man, Mark Baldwin, I gathered up enough courage to ask him. FFC : Let’s get right to it — McDonald’s copied Chick-Fil-A. I know it. You know it. McDonald’s knows it. Everybody knows it. — How does that make you feel? CFA: We are flattered that McDonald’s is enamored enough with our products to be willing to clearly imitate our original Chick-fil-A Sandwich and Biscuit. Based on the reactions we’ve seen from customers thus far, they are making good choices and realize the superiority of Chick-fil-A’s products and people. FFC : Have you tried their new sandwich? What did you think about it? CFA: Yes, we all have tried the Southern Style chicken biscuit and sandwich and, to be honest, they did a good job copying our products. It will probably do well on Sundays (when Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed)! FFC : It seems McDonald’s was very thorough when replicating the CFA sandwich. CFA: There are, however, some key differences in the two products. Since Truett Cathy created the first chicken sandwich in the early 1960’s, Chick-fil-A has been preparing each sandwich fresh daily at the restaurant. We hand bread our chicken sandwich and breakfast filets in the store, while our competitors have frozen, pre-breaded chicken shipped to their restaurants. We even make our biscuits from scratch every morning.

I work at CFA and to be honest I wasn't too happy with what they did and I still am not happy. I was very willing to try the chicken sandwich. I've tried both the regular and the biscuit twice while I was working at my other chicken job at KFC.

All four times I've had the sandwich it was bland and tasteless. There was no southern style taste to it at all. The last time I had it, it was 2 days ago and I got it with no pickles, since I don't like pickles on any of my burgers or sandwiches, and it tasted like they took the pickle off an already made chicken sandwich and served it to me.

The one thing that urks me like crazy is the commercial where the lady says, "I'd love to go up to the one who came up with this ingenious idea and shake his hand." It made me and some others mad and we shot back at it saying, "Truett Cathy"

So that's just my opinion.

I was very surprised to see that McDonald's copied another restaurants sandwich. In a world of competition, it is easy to understand that each restaurant comes out with new items. It's sad that McDonald's had to copy another restaurants sandwich. As far as the 'southern chicken sandwich' goes, I'll always go to the original and the best, Chick-Fil-A, and for every other sandwich for that matter.

Chick-fil-a is a great company. I laugh at the desperation of KFC and MCD at copying CFA. I haven't tried the others. Why would I? Even if the sandwich was better than CFA's... which I seriously doubt.... the experience of CFA is by far a better one than any other fast food chain. The people there are nicer, more competent and the place is cleaner.
I don't think CFA has anything to worry about, but I do think it's quite a pathetic move by the other guys.

Similar, yes. Copy, I don't think so. I do believe that MCD did do a good job at making a chicken sandwich the second or third time around

Just to clear things up, the service is far better at CFA! They are a "Quick Service" resturant NOT a "Fast Food" resturant. McDonalds is a fast food resturant that does not care about its customers and their experiences at the resturant. There will never be a sandwich beter than the original Chick-fil-a sandwich!!!
