I always liked the place. Never had a bad meal. If chewing out your slacker employees is what it takes to make a restaurant work on that part of Ocean, then more power to them. Nobody forces anyone to work where they don't want to in this country. Yet.

Ate there once. The place was filty, with kids playing on the filty floor no less. The food was fringe edible, very greasy to cover up poor cooking.

This place used to be okay, but the last (and I do mean last) two times we ate there, the food was terrible. Also, the family that runs the place is snotty and unfriendly. Non-family wait persons are generally very nice, but it doesn't make up for the badly cooked food.

Goes to show that if you offer pretty good food at a good price you will have plenty of customers forever. When you change that basic premise in Santa Cruz your probably will not last much longer.

Well folks, the name of the show IS Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. I guess S C Diner is being elected to be in the Dive catagory? <BG>

I heart Santa Cruz Diner! Especially the Death by Brownie! MMMMM...Never had a bad meal and the prices can't be beat. The variety of food available was what makes it a really unique diner and as such, it deserves a spot on a show which features them.

Chip could think of himself as the father of Vietnamese soup, and call himself "pho pa".

I wonder if they will clean the place up before the TV cameras arrive? What a dump. Service sucks and the food is about on the same level as Denny's. Ugh, I will never go back there again. Dirty floors are the face they present to the customers; guess what the back part looks like? Of course it was dirty when it was a pancake house too. That dirt may never come out, glued in with decades of grease. This place is definitely a dive.

We have never had a bad anything at SC Diner. It is our favorite place. All the staff are great. The place is always busy and at times you can hardly get in. You can never please everyone and with those folks they need to go to Denny's or IHOP.

When the food is good (or in this case passable) and the waitstaff is rude, that's how you know you've made it back home to SC. At least it's open at 2am.

Terrible restaurant! I always warn visitors against it. One time my wife ordered "roast beef". It was seriously the same stuff they serve in institutional facilities. Inedible. How do you screw up a patty melt? They can do it. Dirty, overpriced, but with a convenient location. We really could use a good breakfast diner in town, but this ain't it.

After a rush hour, the place may be abit disheveled, but they have always been honest aoubt what they serve and carnivores can dine with vegans and all be happy. I think the spring rolls with peanut sauce is the best, most filling, meal in town when the budget is thin. 24 hours, as well! Certainly better than the boring Denny's.

Sounds like Anna C has an ax to grind with Chip too bad. You would think that the people in charge of producing the show would do a lot of research before sending out a crew and a food network star to film it. My wife and I have been going there for years and have NEVER had a bad meal or been treated bad by the staff. We live in Live Oak/Capitola area and were happy to hear that Chip was going to try and open a second location in the old Tiny's...but it didn't work out and we got stuck with IHOP. If you want Mediocre food and really slow and bad service go to the IHOP on 41st. SC DINER is a DINER and a great one at that...congrates Chip and staff, keep doing what you are doing. Doug

Nasty. It's juts plain nasty. But some people... seem to love it? When I see a car on the road w/ the "I love SC dinner" sticker, I keep my distance. LOL

I won't eat there sober but must confess to finding their receipt in my pocket a few times. Usually after last call at the Jury Room. It's a good thing college kids appreciate bad food, a disjointed menu, high prices and mediocre (24 hour!) service. Wait, that almost describes most places in this town. Sigh.

I like SC Diner much better than Dennys or the new IHOP on 41st. I tend to go out to breakfast at least once a week, tried all 3, SC Diner was the best. I've also had lunch @ all 3 places & consider the SC Diner, again, better than the other 2. Greasy spoon or not, it's good food. As for the filth, dirty floors, I didn't even notice.
