Full story: Hartford Courant

I've been in denial for a while now, but the empty spot on the supermarket shelves has forced the truth upon me: Uneeda Biscuits are no more.

I too have had this happen with many favorites such as Sunshine Lemon Cooler cookies, Pillsbury square toaster waffles, and Ritz Honey Buns. They just vanish from the shelves never to be seen again.

I also feel the pain! I was able to locate a small stash and have them frozen.
This was more than my sick day, hangover remedy this was
my childhood memory cracker.. of a time when my mom and dad were young and still here-and life seemed so rosy
Shame on Nabisco for letting this go- and thank you for posting this!

Yup after 110 years Nabisco decided that the would discontinue their first cracker.

A Little history (for memories sake) about the Uneeda Biscuit that I posted on Wiki:

1890 Adolphus Green starts the American Biscuit & Manufacturing Company after acquiring forty different bakeries. At the beginning of his presidency, Green decided the National Biscuit Company, often shortened to NBC, needed a new idea that grabbed the public’s attention. He got it when his employees created a new cracker that was flakier and lighter than any of their competitors’ versions. The UNEEDA biscuit looked promising, but Green had to find a way to make sure it got to customers all fresh and tasty. The Uneeda Biscuit was the first use of the In-Er Seal package. Before Uneeda Biscuit was introduced by National Biscuit Company in 1898, crackers were sold unbranded and packed loosely in barrels. Mothers would give their sons a paper bag and ask them to run down to the store and get the bag filled with crackers. National Biscuit Company used this as part of Uneeda Biscuit advertising symbol which depicts a boy carrying a pack of Uneeda Biscuit in the rain. In 2009 (after over 110 years) Nabisco discontinued the Uneeda biscuit out of concern that the product was not as profitable as other product lines.

Thanks, Rob! Who knew?

I am still in mourning. My mother was sick this summer, and all we kept thinking was, where are the Uneedas when you really need them??

Thanks for the information although it's really sad news. Another casualty in the American Industry quest for ever increasing profits. There was a time when a fair profit made on quality products was the goal; but apparently no more. I used these crackers in turkey and chicken stuffing recipes that my Mother handed down. It just won't be the same Thanksgiving this year.

I believe the Newburyport Baking Company(NBC)first packaged the Newburyport Pilot Cracker before the Civil War, in their Newburyport, Massachusetts Factory. This cracker eventually became The Nabisco Crown Pilot Cracker in New England. This same same cracker was baked I think in New York State as Uneeda Biscuits. Both recently disappered from the shelves. This is not the first time they have gone away. Dont fear - Purity Factories Limited, P.O. Box 1208 St. John's Newfoundland, Canada A1C 5M9
sells Regal Pilot "A Great Chowder Cracker" by Heritage Mills is the exact same thing. Yummy, I'm eating a few buttered crackers now. I bought them this morning at my local "Christmas Tree" Store. I hope this helps.

Got them at the Xmas Tree Shop! My mother and I were going to bring peanut butter and cheese and try it out right there but thought the better of it. They are not exact Uneeda Biscuit experience but close enough! Thanks, Mark!

Still seems like a lame and terrible thing Kraft Foods bothered doing here in the first place. I can't see to really support them nowadays. It's gone far enough!
