I like King Tut. It's usually good...I agree a lot of the appeal is nostalgia. Gino's in Beckley could take a few lessons from Gino's at Lester Square. Lester Square always gets everything right. The one on Harper road screws up everything...if you're lucky enough to actually get your order! The folks on staff act as if you're bothering them. I ordered 3 times for pick-up. I received my order at the window only once! I believe any place can have an off night or orders can get lost, but I won't be going back there!

I think hmmmm is right, if you took away the nostalgia from King Tut they would probably be in trouble because of the hit and miss quality of the food and service. But they still have that nostalgia. When many of us go to king tut we remember the old days and all the other old drive ins that were around. The Old Town and Country Drive In on Raleigh Hill had the best steak hoagie I have ever eaten anywhere. Joey put those italian peppers and sauce on there. We used to have so many good places to eat with great local people who owned those establishments. Hope Jerry and King do well with Calicinos as they have bought back some great nostalgia. Except in my lifetime the building never looked as good as it does now.

C.P., I agree, Calacino's looks great! It has a fun atmosphere, too! The Beckley Moose Club has a terrific steak sandwich! If you're not a member, call ahead and ask to sign in as a guest. The food is great and the prices are very reasonable! I've never had a bad meal there. The shrimp cocktail is absolutely better than the Char's!

When I moved to Beckley, several people raved about King Tuts so I went and checked it out (a couple of times). Needless to say, I was not impressed. If you're in the mood for pizza, play it safe and stick with Pizza Hut. Really, can someone please tell me where King Tuts gets their pizza crust from? It was so pathetic, I started laughing.
Just my opinion, but I think that if you remove the nostalgic atmosphere that captivates King Tuts customers, how many true patrons would it have?
For those of us who grew up here and went to school here, King Tut's is special and always will be. It's part of every good memory I have. It's the first place I drove to all by myself in the car. I had my first date there. But I can honestly say, the only food I ever got there that I couldn't eat was a order of hush puppies that were too well done. Everything else has always been delish. I realise that times and cooks change and they may have an off-day sometimes but I stand by what I say: KING TUTS IS GREAT....

They have good food but they are slow and kinda pricey compared to other places.Momma Annes is my favorite local restaraunt. We dont have a lot to choose from here as far as local non chain food places are concerned.

King Tut used to have the best pizza in town. The last 4-5 times I have ordered pizza there though it was so tough you could not chew it. They are over cooking there crust something awful. I stick with the pizza burgers and my wife sticks with the BBQ's, but without a doubt, King Tut has the best fries I have ever eaten!!!

Hi Folks, I'm Dave McKay, one of the owners of King Tut. In answer to the last poster, we get our crusts from Virga Brothers. We started doing business with them back in 1955. They were bought out but a conglomerate a few years ago but the crusts seemed to be unchanged so we stay with them. Some of you have mentioned uneven quality with our Pizza's. That may be the result of the ancient pizza ovens currently in use. I am considering replacing them in the near future.

Please train your workers on how to treat customers. They are very rude and curt, especially when taking phone orders. They never say, "thank you" or "have a nice day" in fact they say nothing they just hang up. A kind word would be appreciated from time to time. Thank you!!

Sometimes the food is good, sometimes not. The last 2 pizzas we got had the cheese burned. The hot dogs used to be good but they are so light colored now I don't see how the management can say they are made of beef. They don't taste like beef wieners but the turkey kind I buy when I want low-cal wieners. The barbeques are still good as they ever were. My husband won't call in an order; he swears they dont' make it until you get there to pick it up and then you wait anywhere from 20-30 minutes.

Dave,

I hate to bring up an old post but I HAVE to because I am truly concerned about King Tut. I grew up eating at King Tut and Capri. My church would order 30 pizzas at a time from King Tut and with that many pizzas, there was still consistency. When a King Tut pizza is made right, it is heaven. Unfortunately, for a couple years now the pizza is sometimes not even eatable.

The price on the pizza seems expensive compared to what it was and if I was getting the same pizza as 25 years ago, I wouldn't mind paying. However, the toppings that used to be stacked...aren't there. Too much sauce, crust isn't thoroughly cooked, pepperoni has changed, and you all don't put the sprinkle cheese on the pizza like you used to.

I seriously almost want to cry, scream, yell....something because 25 years ago...there were two places to get pizza, imo, King Tut or Capri. It just mattered if you wanted garlic New York style or a contemporary great tasting King Tut pizza. Capri is gone now...I ate there 2 meals a day the last week they were open. I miss Capri sooooo much. Please, Dave, don't make me long for even a bad King Tut pizza because you all close down too.

Pizza is what made King Tut what it is, imo. Please, Please...fix the problems.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Scorpio

Don't believe everything you see today and your memory could be playing tricks on you, too. You might remember things in a distorted or false way, through no fault of your own. You may also be reading too much into the situations that are going on around you, making it hard for you to know what's really happening. Try not to make any big decisions today because you simply aren't thinking straight.
