Who elected queen? |

Nobody. It is a hereditary office and exists because it works better and is cheaper than having a President. Why fix what isn't broken? Democracy lies in elected and representative politicians, not in one powerless figurehead of state. |

Judged: 1 RE: Queen's jubilee a fiesta for souvenir-sellers ..... Yes, there is a demand for souvenirs that is being filled by manufacturers and those sellers. ..... The monarchy is a "spare" government for the same reason that there are spare tires in cars. ..... Usually governments are elected democratically by the voters, but if and when governments resign, having been defeated by the voters' representatives in the House of Commons then the monarch, or his/her representative, takes over in theory - but in practice the resigned Prime minister is asked by the monarch to continue with his "caretaker government", until the next government is sworn it, and usually an election is started then by the monarch or his/her representative which will democratically come up with the party that has more seats in the House of Commons than any other party, and whose leader will be the next, or the same again, Prime Minister. ..... Compare this with a president in other countries who, if he has resigned, is replaced by the vice-president, who, as "running mate" was chosen by the president, was NOT democratically elected to be vice-president. |

No, read what I wrote. You are doing a great job of demonstrating how ignorance often motivates anti-monarchism. Keep it up. |
