I hope your experience was a rare exception because I have the Abbercromby Penthouse Bed and Breakfast right down the street from Sweetie Pie's and send my guests there. So far I have had great comments about the restaurant from my guests. The one thing that I have heard over and over again is the lack of choice for dessert. In fact a couple of people have been irate about only one type of pie. On the other hand, I had a bride and Groom have their reception there and everyone loved the food. Their hamburgers at lunch are SUPER. Just wish they would serve them at night, too. |

This place was awesome!! Traveling cross-country, I made it a point to stop in TX and have a steak. Since we were traveling towards a snow storm, we decided to stop in Decatur, TX. The girl at the front desk recommended Sweetie Pies. If you only want steak, this is the place to go! The potato is baked, wrapped in paper and dipped in a pine rosin and deep-fried. The potato is wonderfully moist. Thes steak was grilled to perfection ( I ordered extra rare). The bottomless salad was quite enjoyable with the Bleu Cheese dressing. The home-made bread was quite good and liked by everyone else but a little on the sweet side for me. To go here and enjoy it, know that steak is what you are going to get. They offer beer and wine. I wish there was a place like that here where I live. The concelpt is interesting and obviouly successful!!!

I have a personal friend that works there and she has been there from the start and she knows all about the steaks. maybe you are just an inconsiderate person do you even know what it takes to make sure the customer is satisfied?!! No probably not because all you can do is sit there and complain about how your steaks were so freaking greasy well i have a news flash for you buddy
THEY ARE NOT GREASY....YOU ARE!!!!

Ate at Sweetie Pie's last night for the first time. I have eaten at the sister restaurant Babe's in Roanoke and Burleson for years. Babe's is an exceptional restaurant, with perhaps the finest fried chicken in Texas. Similar concept but with ribeyes. A 12 oz ribeye, cooked to a perfect medium rare, a huge rosin baked potato that has me searching online on where to find pine rosin it was so good, scratch rolls with Plugra Normandy butter (Never seen this in even the finest restaurants) and a bottomless simple fresh salad with huge chunks of blue cheese, all for $17.99. It's not what you'd get at Del Friscos, but its not $75/head either. The steak is good quality, and is pan-seared so it has a crusty exterior different than a grilled steak, and it is seasoned with a lemon garlic butter, simlar to what you'd get at Ruth's Chris. The pecan pie is not stellar enough to be the only dessert on the menu. It is better than the Ranchman nearby, but if I'm looking for an inexpensive steak I'd go to H3 in the stockyards.

My wife and have been to Sweetie Pies 2 or 3 times. We don't get there more often cause we drive over from Copper canyon.
Our experience has always been A+. We have been treated freindly each time, and the food has always been good. I guess I didn't realize they only had pecan pie for desert. Pecan is my favorite and it tastes like my Aunt Jo baked that morning. So you won't hear me complaining. I would recommend Sweetie Pies to any one who asks. |

Glad to see rosin-baked potatoes still exist. As a long transplanted southerner, it's just one of the many food-culture attributes of that life I still miss. And I used to see rosin pots all the time before we left Hot'lanna, in hardware stores and the like. A big cast iron crock pot, filled three/quarters with rosin.(I remember in the display window of one old store, the pot had tipped sideways and the rosin had become soft--prob'ly in the sun--and half-oozed out). Tell people now about rosin-baked potatoes and they think I'm loopy--but I remember how fabulous they were--with just a whisper of the flavor of the rosin, like a fragrant blush. |

We ate at Sweetie Pies on Friday 9-21-07 before the football game. It was excellent. The ribeye and salad were great. The rolls were the best. I recommend this to anyone. Even took home a pecan pie.

My wife and I had heard that this place was good for some local people, and then I read some of the things on the internet and decided not to go. We finally decided we had to see for ourselves, we ate there for lunch on Sunday, the wait staff was wonderful, they told us we could have a baked potato at lunch if we wanted it, we both ordered our steak
Med rare and they were cooked perfectly. I was the head chef in a very fine Italian restaurant when I was younger, so I to know food. The steak was seasoned well (my guess would be simply salt and pepper) they let the meat speak for itself. The salad was simple but fresh and good; try the house dressing, bacon vinaigrette, very tasty. The pecan pie was great. I have a saying about food and restaurants don’t over do it. Find what you’re going to do and do it well. Sweetie Pies does ribeyes, and they may not be the absolute best steak in the metroplex, but it is a darn fine steak at a great price, and the service was exceptional. Keep up the good work Sweetie Pies; we will drive the 40 or so miles to visit you again. |

I flew out to attend a family adoption ceremony at the Decatur courthouse on April 9, 2007. When we left the courthouse we decided to have lunch at Sweetie Pie's. The place had the feeling of a locals hangout (not a tourist trap) and the food was REALLY good. On my next trip out to see the relatives in Boyd, Sweetie Pie's will certainly be on my to-do list!

Hey, Steve, do you happen to own one of the other local restaurants in town? Your review sounds like sabotage to me. Keep you Big Mac...the rest of us will have ribeyes at Sweeties!

I find this review VERY hard to believe. Both the food & service are great @ Sweetie's!

We ate today, 11-11-07, at Sweetie Pie's Ribeyes BEFORE we read all the posts for the resturant. Let me tell you, We had great service, excellent crisp salad with the bacon vinegarette, great yeast rolls, fantastic resin baked potatos and then had an EXCELLENT Ribeye. I like mine WELL, WELL and they cooked it to what I want. My wife loves hers medium and hers was great also. We did not even have room for desert. I would recommend Sweetie Pie's Ribeye.
FYI - The Cow Camp and K-Bobs are no more! See who lasted longer! |

We were very excited when Sweetie Pies came to Decatur, but have only been twice. The flavor of the steaks was excellent, but they are incredibly thin. Rosin from the skin of the potato got into the potato, and it became very unpleasant. The bread was fabulous.
On both of our visits (a year apart) the service was indifferent, at best. I was charged the price of iced tea for my water, and when I pointed it out to the waitress, her response was, "Oh. Do you want me to fix that?" I told her that would not be necessary, and reduced her tip by the same amount. For a truly amazing steak, I recommend Stevens Street Grill in Bridgeport. The steaks are not inexpensive, but they are thick, tender, and flavorful. |
