And just what's wrong with requiring a car driven by a new teen driver to have a sticker on it?
I'm, and probably a lot of other people are too, sick of people complaining about the possibility of profiling every time they don't agree with a law. Like the open alcohol containers in vehicles law. Some people didn't want that passed because they were afraid the police would target minorities. So it's ok to drive around with an open container of alcohol, drinking as you drive and getting drunk. How ridiculous.
I say put a sticker on the teen driver's car. It will aid the police and also the other drivers on the road. You'll know to stay as far away as possible from that car.
Until parents become more proactive and teach their childred that driving is a huge repsonsibility and not to be taken lightly the problem of teen drivers will persist. From all the teen accidents lately it seems that parents don't do this.
While we are at it lets put different color stickers on cars for different age gropus. We will need one for the 21-30 age group that are IMO the worse drivers. Another for the 30-40 age who are even worse than the 21-30 year olds. Then another for the 40-60, they are a little better since they are teaching their 16 years olds the rules of the road. Then we need one for 60+ warning us of the senior drivers who IMO are worse than 16 year olds.

We don't even have police stopping speeders...
You mean that is part of their job? I thought they were supposed to sit there and watch the cars speed by and do nothing.

wow, only teens do that, GMAB!

What are teens suppose to do when they have some adult tailgating them because they are going the speed limit? They can't speed up because they risk losing their license. Looks like the adults may now have to go the speed limit too!

Screw stickers, I don't even have a front plate or emissions sticker on my joint.
Better be careful about not having the front plate on. Hubby got stopped on the Berlin Turnpike (in Berlin) for not having a front plate on. This was a 6am and just before he got pulled over he had 3 cars speed past him. Guess who got pulled over and not for speeding! Makes you wonder!

Every police department in the state is understaffed and bogged down with other meaningless tasks, who's got the time to enforce these useless laws? How about you idiot parents actually discipline your spoiled brats and leave the police out of it.
Remember kids learn from example. So when they see idiots like you driving fast and weaving in and out of traffic they think it is ok to do. Remember these 16 year olds have been backseat drivers for 16 years. They have seen people speed, run stop signs and red lights. They have seen adults drink and then get behind the wheel. But now that they are 16 we are now telling them forget everything you have witnessed these last 16 years and go by these rules.

I can't believe most of what I'm reading here.

Here's an idea. Let's have no rules or laws at all. Let people just drive with not restrictions at all. No age requirement, no license, insurance, or registration required. Drive drunk if you like, under the influence of drugs, drive as fast as you like, don't stop for traffic lights or stop signs. Cram as many people as you can into your car; heck carry as many people as you can in the back of your pick up.

I say do away with ALL traffice laws.

Just think of the money we could save on court costs, enforcement costs. Why, our population would even decrease because of all the deaths caused by traffic accidents. We can just have a great big free for all on our roads.

Will this suit all you people who don't seem to want restrictions to protect not only our teenage drivers but every driver on the road.

I was driving around yesterday and saw middle aged and old people driving like complete morons too. One lady was causing traffic by trying to turn right from the left hand lane on a 2X2 (4 lane) road. Another guy was seriously doing like 15MPH and had people beeping at him - I passed him at like 30-35 and it felt like he was standing still. The one "younger kid" that I saw driving had both hands on the steering wheel and seemed to be taking it easy... seems like you should lead by example.
One other thing that ticks me off is the people who drive just too fast or just too slow between "groups" of cars when I'm trying to make a left hand turn.
Also, people who wont move out your way when they are in the left lane going way too slow, people who are afraid to pass 18 wheelers and box you in, ah the list goes on and on.
I feel your pain, man. It's tough when you're not an a**hole and everyone else is.

I think all adults should have to take a drivers test every 10 years. When we lived in CA every 8 years you had to take a written test to renew your license. The way the adults drive is scary. I see more adults breaking the laws than kids.
I have a child who is turning 16 in a couple of months. I have no problem going to a class with him. It will open up the lines of comunication for those who do not spend time with their kids.
I am more worried about the other drivers on the road when my son starts to drive. At least the teens will be more cautious when they drive since they have more to lose, maybe the PD's need to crack down on the adult drivers also. Let's set an example for the teens.
Why not take a test to renew your marriage license also? And, more importantly, a test to become a responsible parent before being able to reproduce.

Are people still getting married? Oh my bad.$30,000 lavish affairs. A couple of years later, a quiet divorce. Babies? One or two to test the waters before the divorce for many. Otherwise a half dozen fathered by different partners.

It's the strange notion of staying within your lane, stopping at lights, yielding to pedestrians, following some silly posted speed limit, that seems to elude so many. Seat belts? Only for the timid. Hands-free cell phone? Bah.

Teens are the same. They are wired to take risks. Speed is fun. Congested roads, erratic drivers and faster accelerating vehicles now means that speed can and will kill.

Let the parents take a refresher course. Why not? No harm. However, the ones that need it the most will be sleeping with their eyes open. I don't think it will change the accident rate. Nice try. Think of something else.

What a great idea!!! I know this State isn't making nearly as much money as they can from us. Let's take a DMV test EVERY YEAR! Mo' money, mo' money. NOT!

If we (society or whatever is we) really belived that those who break traffic laws were a threat we would take their cars away.

Traffic law is about making money ....

are you kidding me, you dont see the problem with the sticker?! if a teen has to have a sticker on their car identifiying them, there is a better chance of a sex offender or some kind of rapist being able to get a hold of them. if you kid is driving alone at night, and there is a rapist there, they no there is a teen in the car because it is clerly labeled. come on, do you have a brain wendy.

Mary Sue, I think Dude made a valid point. Clearly identifying teen drivers for predators is not a good idea. Some of us do have teens, what issues do you think others don't understand?
