HOPE IT SOUNDS LIKE SHE DIDNT CREAT A FAMILY. Just a means to support her drug addiction at the expense of the State Welfare system.

Why do they allow garbage like that to continue having Babys? Drugs have destroyed this persons mind and the State continues the cycle by allowing more Welfare babys. This is a classic case of Liberal minded Stupidity!

I am as left as they come. If Nader ran for president, I'd vote for him. And yet, I agree with you. This woman sounds like a piece of trash.

At 25: she's got one dead kid, four in state custody and another on the way - maybe there should be a three strikes law re reckless and irresponsible procreation?

Now my tax dollars have to support her incarceration. I'd rather spend my money on her sterilization.

A woman who by age 25 has four children under the custody of the state; had an infant son die, that would have been her fifth child; and is now pregnant with what would be her sixth child. This is a tradgedy beyond any description.

Not only is her life tragic, but the four children under state custody will forever be damaged; and the as-yet-to-be-born child, if it lives, will suffer immensely.

How could this pattern have been prevented or stopped?

Parenting classes? Her parenting rights should be terminated. As well as being sterilized.

The child died with cocaine in his system.

She gets 12 years, but freed after serving 6. Why?

Why wasn't she in jail before this? Once her latest baby is born, the state should assign the liberal judge that let her out, as the foster parent.

I'm also as left as they come, but "liberal" and thinking neglecting/abusing/killing children do NOT go hand in hand!! This is disgusting. I only hope they at LEAST terminate her parental rights rather than work on reunification after she's been "on the run" since 2005 and will now spend at least 6 years in jail. Jeez, save her kids if they can still be saved, get them out of foster care and in to permanent adoptive homes (if it's even possible now for the older ones - but the baby would be adopted by a childless loving couple in a heartbeat!)

I think you've said it all. Unfortunately, the kids are always the ones who end up suffering the most. It always stuns me how many people there are out there that in all honestly couldn't care less about their children (not nearly a majority, but still enough to horrify anyone). This is an extreme case, but people do this all the time. Drug addiction is a horrible and powerful thing, but there are solutions to the problem. In this case, not only were services available, they were mandated. She still chose not to comply.

Parents who are addicts do this all the time. They choose the drug over the kids. They choose cigarettes over their kids. Again, addiction is incredible powerful, but if the love of yourself isn't powerful enough to get you to help yourself, the love of your children should be. I thought that people were supposed to be willing to do anything for their kids, including laying down their lives if need be. I know that addiction is an incredible challenge and that withdrawal can be horribly painful, but again, aren't you supposed to be willing to do anything for your kids? If I were in that situation, I would plaster my room with pictures of my kids. Their names would become my mantra. I wouldn't rest until I was clean.

Unfortunately, there are too many people having kids that they cannot support financially, physically, or emotionally, many at such a young age that they lack the maturity to care for another human being in that way. To so many, kids are viewed as more of an accessory or talking pet than a person. There are so many kids in state care that will tell you they have more than a handful of siblings, some or all of which are also in state custody though they may have been placed in state care at different times. Many of them have been given back more than once, only to wind up right back in foster care. They bounce back and forth from being cared for by strangers to living in a hellhole. And yet, these girls keep having kids.

I'm all for freedom, but I believe that in cases such as this one, the courts should be able to mandate sterilization, or at least the implanting of an IUD until she deems herself worthy of having children. I'm all for rights, but so many seem to forget that the word "rights" is coupled with "responsibilities" when discussing freedoms in America. If you are of age, you have the right to drink, but you have the responsibility to be safe when doing so. You have the right to free speech, but you have the responsibility to use your speech in a responsible way (ie not inciting a riot). So, we have the right to reproduce, but shouldn't we also have the responsibility to do so in a responsible way? If I were to go on welfare with my first child, why should I be allowed to have four more? I knew that I couldn't support any more kids, so it was up to me to make sure that I didn't have any more. There is free birth control all over the place. If I have a child taken away from me, why should I be able to have more kids? I was so neglectful that the state had to intervene, yet I'm allowed to procreate at the speed of mother nature. These kids are innocents. They have done nothing. Yet, they are the ones who suffer the most. They are the ones that have to grow up in these horrible situations. We seem to be doing a whole lot to protect the rights of these irresponsible adults, but what about the kids that are condemned to this life? Kids shouldn't be brought into the world under circumstances like these.

Twenty-five years old--six children(one dead)--numerous nose thumbings at the court, and she only serves half her sentence. Maybe...there is still early release. Suzy, you said it all!

Why not 12 years straight up? You mean to tell me the state couldn't make that case. Keep her away from the kids forever, keep her in jail for the time she deserves.

If memory serves me, she got only a year for the cocaine in her baby thing. She's doing the 6 years for violating probation. If I'm not mistaken, this woman was given custody of her surviving children when she was done serving the year.
Remember our cultural formula too- a WOMAN who kills a mere MALE infant won't get much time.
Sorry folks- no one likes to hear that but in watching the news it appears to be true.
What really pissed off the judge was not killing the baby; it was the violating of probation.
