Maybe the reason there was no response from the community is because the community does not think this idea is worth anything. It is so easy to blame the economy for things going wrong, however, this shouldn't be one of them. Take it for what it's worth and realize that this was just a bad idea to begin with.

Personally I wouldn't feel good about this sort of reward for actually showing up to school and wouldn't donate to that organization. Its essentially a bribe and if you are going to bribe the kids that don't do what is expected of them, what about the kids that show up and work hard every day as they are expected to? Noone hated school as much as I did when I was there, but you know something, I went because that was the right thing to do.

If this organization thought that they would get large donations from just having a newspaper article, they are blind! Donations are received by hard work. a newspaper article is not hard work - sending out letters is a start but you have to hit the pavement if you want donations. Things don't come easy.
I also agree with Steve - these kids just need to get to school! The parents should be taking control of their children and putting them in school. A $20 gift card is really nothing. I don't believe a $20 gift card would incentify children to go to school. |

When the going gets tough, those with charitable monies donate to causes they feel deserve it. Hungry children, working college students, handicapped persons. Not a bunch of teens who decided to take time out of their day to attend high school.

I would not donate to this. As one has already mention, kids that are already there all the time, perhaps a quite kid, and maybe not the smartest, yet still trying as hard as they can. What will they do with them?
And teachers have the ones they don't like,(yes this still happens and it's part of life, some people just don't hit it off). The whole thing just isn't right. |
Now why would I help raise money for gift cards for kids that ditch school? Wouldn't it make more sense to give gift cards to the students that have perfect attendance? What moron came up with this idea?
Reward someone for doing what they are required to do? Hey I go to work every day, how about a reward? These teenagers need a boot in the butt not a $20 reward for going to school.
Why are we rewarding kids for improving attendence. What about the kids that who already have good attendence and understand the value of an education. I would not donate either to this cause. How about their reward be their education and bettering their lives. I bet some of these kids only improve their attendence to get a gift card.

I skipped alot of classes back in the day. even weeks at a time. But it was my family who set me straight. Perhaps this is a parent/family issue instead of paying students for attendance. I sure did not get any gift cards from anyone. LOL so no I would not support this
"Incentive" for good attendance? How's this for incentive ... Go to school or fail and be held back. That was incentive enough when I was in school. Poor attendance is just another product of no child left behind.
If they don't want to go by golly leave their butts behind. I bet attendance would go up then. |

The more worthy the charity, the less impact the economy has on them
Very good point |

I tend to agree with the rest of the posts. This is a comical idea. I asked around the office no one was willing to donate to this.
No this was a stupid idea, tough love, or tough luck, for kids that don;t go to school. We can't support everybody espeally kids that dont want to go to school. Just crazy!!!!!!! thats the parents jobs not ours.
Got a better idea, someone can pay me to ditch school and then pay me to go back to school, win win situation for me. Moronic idea, who is the tool who thought of this. Reward the students who decide to do work hard in school and actually do something productive.
I got an idea, why don't the parents just make the kids go to school and learn responsibility. Maybe we should give them gift cards for every homework assignment they do, or for taking out the trash or for just waking up in the morning. People GET A GRIP!!
I agree with a lot of the posts here. One thing that would work in my view is hold the parents responsible for their childrens truancies? I would bet there would be a lot less of the little bang wanna be gangers missing school especially if the parents had to pay a fine or better yet attend school with their child! how much fun would that be?

The breaking news is that the City of Farmington, Electric and Water Departments overcharged their customers a combined total of 34.6 % or $7.9 million during the first fiscal quarter. City Management reports collecting $30.7 million with expenses of $22.8 million which projects to a $31.6 million overcharge for this fiscal year.
