Seizing 437 Children From Polygamists Proves Texas-Sized Burden
Texas won the first round in the biggest custody fight in U.S. history, temporarily keeping 437 children seized from a polygamous Mormon sect amid allegations of sexual abuse. Now it has to figure out what to do with them.

It speaks volumes that the kids are in custody and not even one of their fathers.

What did one expect form the Texas judiciary?

Exactly! Amen! Let's blame the victims. If, like the rest of the US, this group of people have been invaded by sex offenders - get the offenders out and leave these poor people alone! |

The 'fathers' will have their day in court. The kids are in 'protective custody.' The 'dads' will be in criminal custody, if found guilty. Left unresolved: The structure of conjugal visits, after trials and convictions. |
Due process of law. Trials, not charades of such. The children are entitled to a voice in court. |

1 I don't think so. Free from government intervention in LAW? Polygamy? Child Rape? Sexual Assault Against more than 25 confirmed pregnant minors? Here's your "ancient text" (less than 200 yrs old) that you found your fundamental beliefs on. Try to "divorce" your doctrine from the nut-case FLDS all you want. You still subscribe to LAWLESS NONSENSE. Polygamy was, in fact, one of the most sacred credos of Joseph's church - a tenet important enough to be canonized for the ages as Section 132 of The Doctrine and Convenants, on of Mormonism's primary scriptural texts. The revered prophet described plural marriage as part of "the most holy and important doctrine ever revealed to man on earth" and taught that a man needed at least three wives to attain the "fullness of exaltation" in the afterlife. He warned that God had explicitly commanded that "all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same ... and if ye abide not that covenenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory." The original edition of Doctrine and Covenants was called the (Book of Commandments) and was published in *1833. This book contained allegedly direct, word-for-word revelations from God to Joseph Smith. But in *1835 the Book of Commandments was reissued under the title (Doctrine and Covenants) and appeared with literally **thousands of changes made from God's earlier revelations.** |

1 Nevertheless, the Mormon Church frequently claims that the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants have never been changed. Supposedly, there has been no tampering with "God's Word." But the evidence is there for any Mormon to see. All interested readers may examine the issue for themselves by comparing modern versions with the first editions of the Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants as found in Joseph Smith Begins His Work, Volumes 1 and 2 (notarized photostat copies) |

Dyann - My comments regard the US Constitution. The Constitution does not recognize perceived add-on amendments made by tenets of the particular religion. It stands alone. Therefore, your inclusion of Mormon tenet is unrecognizable.

More mouths to feed for the U.S. taxpayer. With sme counseling, the Morons maybe would have responded and become like the rest of we dumb taxpaying slobs: happy, productive slaves of the BushCheyney state of the onion.

1 The people of this religion have over-stepped their religious freedoms. They have commited crimes and I think the US government had every right to step in. God wouldn't approve of this religion. |
What are their crimes? Their biggest crime seems to be non-conformity in a modern technological society. In this Country we are to have the presumption of innocense until PROVEN GUILTY! This egregious and unlawfull action by Texas law enforcement agents against these people should have every American incensed by this infringement on their civil liberties. I have no doubt but that these children are in the care of bible-toteing Babtists and Evangelicals with their born-again theology demonizing the children's polygamist Families and FLDS Religon. Not to mention corrupting the children's lives with modern technological culture - something their parents have tried to sheild them from. They say the devil is in the detail, but in this case the devil is in these proselyte government prosecutors and their crusade against the FDLS. THE REAL ABUSE HERE IS THE FORCED SEPARATION OF CHILDREN FROM LOVING AND CARING FAMILIES. The governments real agenda here is more about conformity, because there is no greater sin in a modern Technological Society then the act of non-confrmity. |

1 The law is based on several basic principles, among them freedom and justice. everyone has the freedom granted by the constitution and by God to live there lives according how they see fit, under certain boundries, but once a person or persons overstep those said boundries then justice demands that they be held accountable. The Texas raid was not about persicution of an odd faith,(if that were the case then why not invade amish country?) The FLDS sect obvioulsy made a great overstep in their freedoms by allowing the abuse of countless women and children. I'm well aware that not all of the members of the FLDS were abused or abusers, but their failure to act on the behalf of those they knew were being mistreated makes them just as guilty as the ones commiting the act, and puts their children in even greater risk. The law and common sense dictates that the children be removed from that situation. |
