Palm Beach County cuts 35 jobs to pare budget

If only the police and firefighter would take a pay cut then we could save these jobs. Greedy bastards.

Code Enforcement, hundreds of worthless and expensive jobs. Why not eliminate those? There is little to no new construction going on, so their need has dropped 100%. Eliminate the jobs, the trucks they drive, the miles they travel, and the facility space they take up, certainly something the county had better review and eliminate.

The sad thing is that all of the high paid managers, directors, etc. are sitting around in meetings deciding which of the employees that actually DO the county work will need to be let go to reduce costs. It is a very difficult task when trying to eliminate employees that you manage and still insure that you do not have to do any actual work yourself. These are hard choices in tough times!

Why have we paid so much for parks? The only ones using them are the illegal immigrants. Please don't waste your time calling me racist because I am Hispanic. Why do I assume these men are illegal. There are 500 men and no women watching them play.
When the issue of increased taxes for parks was raised, my husband and I decided to vote yes because, although we don't have children, we thought kids today need places to exercise and to have fun that does not require money from their already strapped parents. We felt that teenage crime is high because they don't have places to burn off energy. Unfortunately, these parks are always occupied by grown men playing soccer. There should be a law that these fields should be rented by adults and free for children. What say you? |
|
No, the Parks are great, good money spent for now and the future. Libraries, now thats a waste for more Libraries. We have more than enough and now our research needs have changed and Libraries are not the answer. |

sure lets cut back on everyone including the police, but lets give dah commissioners a raise this yr................

cut more, save more
|
|
|
Just Code Enforcement, no other cuts would need to be done.

again: Cut more, Save more

What about the low income students that are working hard and can't afford a computer or possibly a book to read? Yes, we need libraries for just one of these reasons, because they allow the students to accomplish this. Let's show some empathy please. |
|
Sounds fine to me. |
|
Your thought process and sentence structure shows you should be spending more time in a Library! Do you hate everything and everyone, or just county workers in general? |
|

Mmmmm, see where the spineless county commission failed to address the issue of take home vehicles for employees who reside outside the county along with eliminating their discretionary fund. To take away cell phones from employees and replace it with a a stipends for work related calls and now the abuse will begin with this program. They ducked the bullet and now wait until next year and all the problems they will face with the budget if they are still in office after November.

the fact that none of the fat cat babyboomer bureaucrats will be cutting the salaries or benefit packages goes without saying
gw bush & babyboomers = the worst ever |

"Less than $7 of the $32 million budget reduction actually came from layoffs and program cuts" They raised "fees" by $2.4 M and the rest was done with smoke and mirror accounting...
Clearly this was just an election year ploy. There's no way that this approach will come close to saving the $110 Million that needs to come out of the budget next year. It appears that the REAL PLAN is to raise tax rates NEXT year. |
|
The fact is that the importance of libraries has plummeted with the advent of the Internet. While not proposing the closure of all libraries, I do support a major reduction in the number of libraries and the largely redundant services they offer at the present time. In short, I think that they are basically relics of times past. |

Take their pensions away,...
... and keep the firemen away from Publix, that along would save hundreds of thousands... |
|
That seems to be your answer to every problem the country faces. Just because your employer treats you like a peon, does everyone have to be a serf to his boss? |
|

I wonder how many $$dollars$$ could be saved if the personal car use policy by P.B.County employees and Sheriffs was done away with?
Or at least increased from its 50.00/month to 50.00 per week and NO gas! You can't even get a rent a wreck for 50.00 per month-plus gas. Hey I watch cops-lol-, the size of some of those cops-looks like they make enough money for food-lots of it! Use it to buy gas and look healthy:) |

We are almost two years away from the bottom of the market, Compared to the peak in 2005, we will see a total correction of 50%. Add this to the mandated property tax cuts, and the days of the government vampires making over $100K per year are over!
