Opportunity abounds for school reform

When Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa first saw the results of a poll he commissioned on voters' attitudes toward an education bond, his trademark grin must have stretched from ear to ear.

Stop the bullsh*t!!! The only ones who would have voted for MORE school bond $$$ are the effing illegals! Of course they want more taxes...because WE pay it...not them!!! They don't pay one red cent in taxes! What bullsh*T!!!

And as far as the village idiot, Tony Villar, is concerned...he should be behind bars, along with his Gang of 15 in City Council! We taxpayers should sue the city for back taxes...we deserve a rebate for all the money Villar & Co squandered!

More money??? You can't be serious!!!!

NOTE: This city is 60% Mexican...all polls are skewed and should be considered null and void! What a joke!!!!

I wonder if the tune would change if they were taking the money from the welfare system.

Duh! Bonds are not taxes
Duh! Non-citizens can't vote.
Duh! The poll was of registered voters.
Duh! The illegals pay sales taxes, gas taxes and their landlords, who in turn pay property taxes.
Duh! Wealthy investors pay for and buy the bonds so they can get a tax break on the interest earned.
Duh! Burbank is not LA.

"What does it tell us that Angelenos are willing to be so generous with a school district in which we place so little faith? "

I have no faith in a poll conducted by the city government. They only polled 100 people? That's laughable? From where, LAUSD administration office, the local union hall, and a few dozen illegal aliens renting apartments?

I think Angelenos feel we've sacrified more than enough for school bureaucrats. They've squandered more of our money than ever on waste, corruption and bureaucrat salaries. And the quality of service continues its freefall.

Giving them more money to squander is just proof to them that we're gullible and that the status quo climate of waste can continue. Limiting their funding is the only way to force the incompetent bureaucracy to budged and live within their means like the rest of us must do.

Anway, I propose that NO city with Rent Control laws be allowed to issue capital improvement bonds. Allowing renters whose rent remains artificially low to endorse taxes on property owners is completely unfair, especially when landlords are unable to spread the taxes among renters as they should be. And new renters and renters in cities with no rent control need to be educated that these excessive taxes are include in rents.

So, the LA schools are "allowing" 1/3 of their students to drop out. When you look at the numbers recently released on student demographics within tht drop out numbers, what is being "allowed'"becomes more clear.

If only Whites and Asians were counted as drop outs CA would have the best graduation rates in the nation, with only 10-15% not completing school in four years. However, when you look at Hispanics and Blacks the numbers go up to 30 and 40%, giving the AVERAGE of around 24% for the state.

What groups do LA schools deal with more that any other schools in the state? Hispanics and Blacks, of course. What is going on here is what is always being "allowed" to go on, Wealthier kids (Asians/Whites) are doing just fine and the poor kids are struggling. Just how do LA schools, or any other schools for that matter, "allow" kids to be wealthy or poor? How do the schools allow thse kiids to show up in Kindergarten already, developmentally, several years behind? How do the schools allow minority kids to lose more learning while on vacations and breaks? All of this has been repeatedly demonstrated in research.

Who has allowed CA's spending per child for K12 education to sink to 45th in the nation? The schools?

What is being allowed is for the media to ignore the reality of CA's miserable support for children in almost every category of services. It is so easy to point fingers at "schools", teachers, and unions and the media does this relentlessly. These lies by ommission weave the very fabric of the curtain we are not supposed to look behind. What if it was admitted that widespread poverty was the real reason for widespread school failure? Why, you'd have to advocate for dealing with poverty. Can't have that, can we?

Screw Villar and the LAUSD. My kids are in private school. There is no way I would ever allow for a chile of mine to attend an LAUSD school. Whatever measure on the November ballot is for a bond, tax increase, etc. you need to do your part and shoot it down.

The Mayor's unconstitutional attempt to take control of the school board wasted our tax dollars, as we taxpayers had the privilege of paying for both sides of that lawsuit.

Villaraigosa's months-long failed takeover attempt accomplished nothing, and it wasted valuable time -- time he could have spent posing for even more photo-ops, so that fawning "journalists" like the author of this piece could have written more about his "trademark smile."

Villaraigosa, moreover, then essentially took over the school board through his proxies. The developers who fund his campaign gave him money to get his pawn elected to the board, where they now hold a majority, and purported to give him "influence" over a collection of schools.

What have Villaraigosa's puppets accomplished so far? Nothing.

All parents should have the option to send their children where Villaraigosa and his ex-wife sent their children: to private schools.

Sentencing the children of the poor to waste 12 years of their young lives in the LAUSD's failing schools is unconscionable. Parents should be able to opt out, send their children to private schools, and receive reimbursement for the tax dollars saved as a result.

You know the expression: one definition of "insanity" is to do the same thing over and over, and expect different results. If we keep sending children through the LAUSD meat-grinder, why would we ever expect different results?

sure he a advocate of education reform with someones elses money.
most people that vote on these bond issue aren't even home owners.

Per billionare and oil and energy expert T. Boone Pickens: Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa is doing an amazing job as Mayor especially in the area of transportation, crime and the economy. I feel very confident that the Mayor will do an outstanding job with the LAUSD when he assumes partial control. Do not forget that it was 20 years ago when Bobbi Feidler started the white flight movement. This white flight movement was started because Bobbi Feidler did not want BLACK children going to white schools. As crazy has it may sound she was actually elected to the U.S, congress. Thank goodness that the repugnantcans "contract with America" did not apply to our great city of Los Angeles.

The repugnantcans over the last 14 years have done everything they possible could to ruin the country and worst yet hide behind the flag in doing so.

Keep up the great work Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
