If welfare people had to work many would be lazy and inefficient workers. So rather than have business support them through wages the welfare system was setup to support them and in effect subsidize business.

In other words Big Business doesn't want these people to work, it wants YOU to pay their way through taxes.

Funny how few conservatives figure this out, you know, how the taxpayers subsidize business.

I work for a cell phone provider and I can tell you many times when we ask for proof of residency they will send you a letter from a homeless shelter so - the answer is yes - they always find a way to pay for the cellphone and the beer and the cigarettes....but no food for the kids......

These people should get creative and develop a community garden for their food. If they do not have space in their yards they can get the city to donate land for ten to plant fruit and veggies. Also tofu is much healthier for a person than meat and costs about $1.50 a pd.
I do not understand why in this day and age people go hungry in the USA.

That is without a doubt the most creative albeit laughable nonsense I have seen on here in some time.

i'm not happy about the increase in food prices.
but instead of looking for someone to blame, the wife and i (who both work) adjusted the budget to pay for food. and we pay for it without any food stamps, link cards, WIC, etc.
so in other words, i'm sick of all these cry babies who expect the government to take care of them, and for the rest of us to feel sorry for them. everyone is a victim, and no one is to blame!

Just so you know, a family of 5 gets about $675 a month in foodstamps if they are in the lowest income bracket. That is only for food, no non-food items. My wife and I both work, we have a family of 5. We don't spend over $150 a week on our total grocary bill, let alone food only, more like $100. If only we were budgeted for another $50 per week, I'd eat steak once a week and buy much more produce. But I guess for us working fools, we can only dream or choose to be financially irresponsible. It makes me sick to my stomach when I think about how convoluted our values have become.

That is only happening on the "South Side"? What a relief, I thought there were unwed mothers everywhere. I didn't realize they all live in one neighborhood. Must get crowded there.

Ok, again the food stamp program is to supplement not supply the families with food for the month! Aren't there any jobs out here/ McDonalds, Taco Bell, a gas station! Do something to help feed your family. The state can't do everything!

my wife & i have four children. we spend about $150 a week on food. people on welfare shouldn't be allowed to get 1/2 that. make them get jobs!!!

we have generation after generation on welfare, food stamps, link, wic, and anoyother program that the goverment will give you something for nothing, so you don't
have to work. work is for the poor idiots who have too much pride to take a handout.

Glad you liked it Wow. But I'm kind'a kiddin' on the square, there is some truth in what I say about taxpayers subsidizing business, especially with regards to low paid workers. If it takes X amount to live and the employer pays -X who makes up the difference? We do.

What makes you think that food stamp recipients don't work. Do the math. The jobs you listed aren't going to put a roof over your head, feed you and supply you with even the lowest cost things like health insurance and raising a kid. With the major companies that have abandoned the Lehigh Valley or have severely cut back, that has added to the food stamp program.

I would bet there are people who you know and are friends with that are getting food stamps and you don't even know it.

Why do people put stamps on food? Do they sent the food home? Can't they just put the food in a plastic bag and carry it home?

Seriously if you cannot make 542 a month work for groceries there is something wrong. I have a family of five and with the use of coupons and smart shopping we spend far less than this and we eat very well. The food stamp system is a joke!

I think what needs to happen is that these individuals receiving food stamps need to be taught how to shop. It would make a big difference. A witnessed a lady buying food the other day with food stamps and a lot of it was prepackaged frozen foods. This type of food is often not healthy and is usually very expensive. It is a matter of teaching people proper healthy choices!
