What are you doing about this other than writing an article on the internet? Does this help your cause at all? Why don't YOU teach your own children about America? When did people stop remembering that America is made up of many cultures? Can you say that you are 100 percent American? Unless you are a Native American I don't believe you can. A Native American of PURE blood. What I mean by that is no other ethnics in your blood. Can you say that? It's easy to complain about the education system but until you take responibilty for your own children's education you cannot really complain. You want your children to know about America? TEACH them!

first of a donna remember this if there was so many cultruals why is americans and american indains? some ndns will not agree with this and many will don't place American in front of Indians of natives or tribe. period

absolutely not one person on the face of this earth had a choice as to which culture or area they were born into to, there is good in every race and bad in every race, and that is the human race. One way or another we all have to share this earth, the reason there are mostly chinese people in china and spanish people in mexico is because they generally tend to share the same types of cultures, values, religion, etc. America is the melting pot of the earth and therefor putting all different kinds of religions, races, cultures, etc together will cause a bit of dischord no matter how politically correct we are supposed to be, but I am a white American and it seems that every other culture can be proud of their race but me. I realize the injustices that have been done to other races by the white man, but i certainly had no part in that, nor did my family members, and I am proud of my families contributions to this country and shouldnt have to feel ashamed to say it. I see "Brown pride" on cars and tattoos, and that is totally acceptable, but to put "white pride" would make me a racist. I wouldnt want to do that anyways, but I am proud of my heritaqe, i haven't murdered anyone or mistreated anyone and the white race has also done alot of good, but we all seem to be focused on the bad. I just wish we could all be humankind and respect the fact that no one got to choose where we ended up, and to stop punishing each other and just live on this earth together in peace, because none of us are going away and we can all celebrate the country we all live in and it shouldnt offend anyone because if we live here, we are all americans, regardless of how, or why we are here.

Now to call someone american indian in my point of view is an insult!

See here we are all human and the bottom line our outisde make-up is different and this is a test of test from the creator! My views only!

We all have the same internal parts and when it comes to judjement day there is only one thing that GOD is going to read and it's not the color of our skin it will be our heart.

the reason "white pride" would make you look like a racist, although your intent would not be racist, is because racism is the heritage of North America, Europe and western civilization in general, that acted as a deadly "white supremacist" culture for many centuries. The idea of the "superior race" was not created by Hitler, but by Western Europe a long time ago. The pseudo science of Eugenics was still popular in the mid 20th century in this nation, and in its name Native American women were still sterilized against their will or their knowledge well into the 1970's. The problem with America is its hypocrisy, the unwillingness of most Americans to educate themselves about the true history of this nation. Didyouknow says it and he is right...America does not stand on a higher moral ground than other nations, it is as bad, or as good, as any other. They only difference? money!
Most immigrants do not come here for the love of American culture (is there such a thing?)...they come here, from poor nations, to "make it", lured by the "American dream" (that has become a nightmare under the criminally insane neo-con administration).
You want to celebrate American holidays and American history? By all means do it, BUT TEACH YOUR KIDS THE WHOLE TRUTH, not fairy tales!!(such as "God gave us this nation").
And everyone in the world is "proud" to have popped out of a uterus somewhere...it is the most idiotic (national pride) thing on this planet, but it is okay as long as it does not lead to wars, as a form of mild delusion...
Americans do suffer from isolation and much ignorance, having no clue what is going on in the rest of the world...there are plenty of people who DO NOT envy us, who would not want to live here under any circumstance, and who feel sorry for us, who consider their quality of life much better than the average American (and some of these people are expatriate Americans, who are much happier living in another country).
As far as "I was not there, I did not do it", you are not responsible for the past, BUT YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THE TRUTH OF THE PAST, rather than burying it in lies and denials. Speaking of holidays, if Americans acknowledged TRUE history, they no longer would celebrate Columbus Day, for example, because Columbus was a mass murderer. This is not about guilt, since you did not do it. It is about honoring the truth, period. Then once you are done educating yourself about the past, you can look at what is being done against Indigenous people here and in Canada, and stand up for what is right as an American, and contribute to improve America's credibility, particularly that of the government.
But as long as Americans care only about their standard of living, they will have no credibility in the world, and their self-proclaimed "high moral ground" will be accurately perceived to be hypocritical propaganda meant to hide their government's true agenda, which is aggressively promoting national interests at any cost.

The problem is, Native Americans are still being crapped on by the US and Canadian governments (not to mention Mexico, South and Central America), just like other Americans you might say, but the difference is, they have become such a tiny minority under the boot of the dominant culture that they have no political power. They are starting to acquire some economic power through gambling, but that's highly contested by reactionary forces that want to keep them powerless.
So in an ideal world, it would be up to ordinary Americans to find their conscience and rise to the occasion, and stand for what is right in regards to Native people. Unfortunately it is not happening very often, as a matter of fact it seems that whenever Native people stand up for their rights, they get mostly a lot of negativity (if not hatred) from the local red necks and part time racists who throughout North America live in the vicinity of their reservations.
Do you get the point?(You might have to educate yourself about Native issues in order to do so, because you are not going to get this kind of information in the mainstream media, that could not care less about Native people unless somewhat get arrested or a new casino pops up...)

The Native Americans have their own conclaves they are called reservations. Reservations set their own laws and practices, IE: self government.
The rest of the people have no reservation. They attempt to co-exist within a smeltering pot in wherever they decide to pitch their tent. They are governed by Laws etc. of the U.S.A..
Perhaps this is the problem. We are not a United States in the since of the words.
The only questions are why are we not united? Or should we be?

Reservations are controlled by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the type of government the BIA forced on Indian people is not traditional but modeled after the American system...and consequently very easily corrupted.
Although the reservation system was the outcome of treaties through which tribes ceded huge territories to the US while keeping some land for themselves, the actual intention of the US government was to eventually "assimilate" Native people into the general population and do away with the reservation system, which it attempted to do in the 50's.
The Indian people cannot survive culturally and spiritually without the land, and this is what makes them different from other Americans: they don't view the land as "property" but as a living being, a part of the greater creation to which they are related. This is of course in ideal, traditional terms...many Native people have lost these traditions and understandings, and are, like other Americans, more connected to their televisions or computers than to grandmother earth.
This is because their cultures were not just "lost" but purposely destroyed by Church and government in the 19th century, that went to great lengths to "kill the Indian and save the man" in residential schools, stating that "traditions are the enemy of progress".
But there is still a flicker of this spirituality here and there, there are still traditional Indian people who view this civilization to be a mad and destructive enterprise, and who if they had a choice would prefer to have no part in it as some still do in Canada, who still live of hunting and fishing in the far north and away from drug and alcohol problems, unemployment, demoralization, etc.
The Lakota, one of the poorest people in this nation, got a judgment that is worth over 800 million dollars today with interest, for the US theft of the Black Hills in the late 19th century...but for over a decade they have refused to take the money like anyone else would in America, because they regard these hills as sacred to their people, and consequently cannot sell them. In the meantime, many live in tar paper shack and under third world conditions, yet their spiritual belief in the sanctity of the land take precedence over their physical needs. They are the caretakers of this area and cannot just surrender it even for a huge stack of paper money. I am sure it is hard to understand for most Americans, because American values are different.

Nope our values are the same. Home, family, religion, the land etc.. there is no difference except the execution of those values. And the value of their execution.
