Silent strokes linked to memory loss in the elderly

New research links 'silent strokes ,' or small spots of dead brain cells, found in about one out of four older adults to memory loss in the elderly.
To stave off Alzheimer's, stroke prevention measures may help? Interesting. Makes sense, if it's a vascular disease. Here's a clip I found, featuring the leading expert on stroke prevention, and some dietary advice of his that made the news (not that having any terminal illness is funny, but he's got a darkly humorous way of making his point): http://nutritionfacts.org/videos/whose-health...
Although there might be some direct discernable causes to alzheimers it comes back to use it or lose it. The elderly need to use their brain and body. I've seen too many over the years decide to sit in during their senior years and just like the kid who gets obese and diabetes from inactivity the seniors mind and body will fade just as quickly and severely.
Keep seniors active, I can't put it any other way. Tell them use it or lose it. It's there choice to fade away.
I agree, but many senior citizens suffer from debilitating arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and have difficulty being mobile. Then there are those who can no longer walk at all. Not all are due to lifestyles or poor habits. Obviously, the healthier you live your life, the chances of remaining healthy increase; yet heredity and genetics is a factor in how well and long we will live. The fact is, more people are living longer, but there are risks that come with age. Frankly, having seen how my father was being cared for in a nursing home, I'm pretty sure I don't want to reach that stage or to be so old that I can no longer function.
