Happy it passed. Our kids needed it. Not having sports and busing is crazy. Sports are important. It helps kids get scholarships to college and also keeps them off the streets.

What percentage of people attending college are there on a sports scholarship?

It's a sad day, expect more of the same, the community had a chance to direct the district, but this is no longer the case, to all those bent on sports.. congrats.. hope your kids feel good about what they got and continue to turn their heads away from those that have not.. Way to go.. parents, you are teaching them well.

It's not just about sports. My children are in the band. Not passing this levy could have affected them getting scholarships. They are very talented because they work hard at being good.
I have been apart of this community for 20 years. I moved here because Grove City is about schools and family. I am sorry everyone has to pay a little more in taxes so our kids can have a good education but that is life. Just be thankful that your education came so easy.

If sports and band is such a big deal that they need property owners to pay for it, then don't expect anyone to support school fundraisers. You have received your money, congratulations. IF you are going to rob us you may as well use the money to better the education of students in Grovetuckey so they can actually earn their college scholarships using their minds.

They were going to restored all the stuff they stripped from the kids whether the levy passed or not. People are so gullible.

I can not believe South-Western citizens fell for the strong arm tactics that was put on them. A bond issues passes (questionable) that will not go into effect until 2011 and they reinstate buses and sports.

Ranked 24 out of 26 school districts and none of that money will go to students.

It is pitiful that the staff (teachers and administration) were not willing to make sacrifices for the students they claim to care about. In my job, I work twelve months a year, off shifts, weekends and holidays; I knew that going in....yet, the teachers make it a pity party for themselves that they need to get a master's degree, are required to take continuing education classes (as many lines of work require) and spend their own money for things for their classrooms, but they have weekends, holidays and the summers off. Did they not know going in to this field the requirements?
At my job, NOBODY got a raise this year, so we could avoid laying off anyone, it is something we did for each other. Maybe the teachers and admin could take note to make concessions so that the students would not have to make the sacrifices? Isn't that why these people have jobs and when others have been laid off, downsized or their employer just plain closed its doors?? because of the students? to teach and nurture them? to help them grow and learn? hmmm...seems that some have their best interests in mind than the students.

Shame on teachers??? Are you serious? Why is it that when a school district is in trouble because of unconstitutional school funding- the public loves to jump on the band wagon and immediately place the blame on the teachers? Before you ever place SHAME on a teacher- especially a teacher in the South-Western City School District- try walking in the shoes of one. You have no idea what a teacher does each and every day for YOUR children- and they do it because they love it. Not because they get weekends, holidays, and summers off. What you fail to mention in your post is that most teachers do not have all of this time off- because they are busy grading papers, planning lessons, taking courses, or working additional jobs. All of this IS to teach and nurture children- to help them grow and become successful adults. And yet, these shameful people, these teachers, they are repaid by people like you with the kind words of "shame on you".
By the way- you mentioned that in your job-no one got a raise this year. The entire staff of the South-Western City School District voted to freeze their salaries as well this year. This sacrifice of a pay freeze was enough for you in your job- but you wanted the teachers to sacrifice more than you had to? That just doesn't seem fair. Hmmmm. If you are unhappy with your current employment and your salary- I believe that the president is offering stimulus money for college. Maybe you should try taking some education courses- become a teacher- so that you can share some of this SHAME.

Yeah Brown Eye, shame on teachers for spending countless hours away from the classroom doing work related things. Grading papers, working on lesson plans, spending extra time with students, supporting the students by attending the sporting events, plays, concerts, etc. Many teachers take on an extra job during the summer to make up for the fact that they are UNDERPAID for what they do. They spend hundreds of dollars of their own money for classroom items that the district cannot afford to pay for. They fork over their own money to cover lunches or field trip money that parents cannot afford to come up with. They are counselors, mentors, and friends to hundreds of kids every day. I understand that districts mismanage the money they receive, but that has nothing to do with the teachers, who agree in most cases that the money is going towards the wrong things.
And since you obviously haven't noticed, hundreds of teachers are laid off from districts all over the city each year.
And no I'm not a teacher. I just appreciate the people who are responsible for my children 8 hours a day.

Do any of you actually live in SWCS district? it's easy to spew your crap when you don't live here and are not affected by the cuts, the tension even when we go to church or the mudslinging that goes on every day here. it's easy for others to make choices about what we who live here should do when they will not have to pay the extra taxes.

PS--TEACHER 1 AND OTHER BS'ERS....WHO SAID I AM NOT HAPPY IN MY JOB???????? I AM TOO BUSY SAVING YOUR SORRY A** TO WORRY ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT I AM UNDERPAID (PS--I HAVE A MASTER'S DEGREE YOU MORON!!)

I am glad to see the levy passed for my fellow peers that are still gaining their education in the SWCS district. And to those who say it is only about sports and why don't they seem to care about education...these students have ONLY had education for the past three months. The walls were bare, for there was nothing to have posters on; the schools were empty of feeling and passion. With clubs, sports and extracurriculars, students gain a sense of themselves and develop many life lessons and leadership roles...things that can not be effectively learned in the classroom.

Yes, I live and TEACH in the SWCS district. You were the one complaining about working weekends, holidays, extra shifts, etc, not having a raise, etc. And you claim that teachers are the ones having a pity party??? Get a grip. We all feel the tension and feel the affects of the mudslinging. Stop feeling sorry for yourself- and place blame where blame is due. This is not the fault of the teachers. You claim to have a masters degree- how did you get it? I am assuming that you had at least a good teacher or two along the way? A well educated person would NEVER place shame on a teacher. And before you call me a MORON, I welcome you to spend a day in my elementary classroom, where 60% of the students do not speak English. Work with me, as I help them learn to read, write, work math problems, communicate with their peers, and function in the school setting. Then help me plan lessons that will also meet the needs of the remaining students who do speak English and who do not require remedial help. Hopefully no one will come to school hurt, hungry, crying, cold, sick, abused, etc. Because that would really put a damper on our day. But, I guess because you have a Masters Degree and you are upset about unconstitutional school funding, you have the right to call me a moron and place shame on what I do every day.
