What an incredible waste of money! What are our priorities here? Educating students, or snooping into their urine? Leave that up to the parents. How silly have we become in this country, that we are obsessing over what students do in their free time, while we are churning out high school graduates who cannot even fill out a job application. Why don't we just all become Nazis and get it over with?

RANDOM DRUG TESTING SHOULD BE AS IT SAYS....RANDOM

DO NOT PICK THOSE STUDENTS THAT WISH TO EXCEL IN ACTIVITIES ALONG WITH SPORTS TO BE THE DRUG USERS. LEADERS OF CHILDREN ARE WHOEVER THEY WANT TO BE LEADERS... BAND MEMEBERS, DRAMA STUDENTS.......WHY IS SPORTS THE ONLY EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITY THAT IS BEING SINGLED OUT. DRIVING TO SCHOOL.......MOST OF THEM HAVE JOBS AFTER SCHOOL AND THAT IS WHY THEY DRIVE.
THE LOGIC THE SCHOOLS ARE USING IS STUPID

Random drug testing is not the answer to having kids excel. The children who truly need to be in school are the ones who will quit because of fear of testing. This is a ludicrous step taken by the Lewisville school district and exemplifies the missteps that public school system has taken. Lewisville and any district that follows in their steps will lose residents, business, and untimately tax dollars. The Chamber of Commerce and business leaders should step in to help alleviate this pandemonium. I will pull my children out of LISD and move if this continues. The Superintendants and principals of the school district should also be fired as they do not understand what the "real" problem is, or how to devise a solution to cure said problem. Drastic change is needed! Unfortunately many children will stop participating due to what I think is an unlawful and embarrasing act. LISD parents should form a class action lawsuit against the school district for trying to enforce ludicrous policy. In closing, the demographics for drug use are not the kids who are in athletics or the chess club, nor are they the kids whose parents can afford a car. These tests reveal marijuana and methamphetamines use if administered within 72 hours. The bigger problem is "cheese", heroin, ecstacy and prescription drugs, none of which show up in urinalysis drug testing.

I like this idea. I feel if parents were actually parenting instead of trying to build "friendships" with their children the school districts would not have to go to such drastic measures to ensure the safety and well being of all children.

I think a publicly sponsored web site should have a room for leaving or posting opinions on any issues the school district, the students and their parents are talking about. That said, I think the latest idea to drug test all students and faculty of the entire Lewisville ISD is only another money grab. This only allows for more corruption in the way school finances are procured. Example: Student gets tested and is positive, now what happens next is an unending miriad of government fines, regulatory fees and over all a complete ruining of that students life and their parents all ready over burdened budget being ravaged by yet another school appropriated tax.
What happens when it is found that 85% of the entire district including the teachers and administration uses drugs considered wrong or bad? Who has the right to say what one can or can not put into ones own self? Who and what companies and their owners benefit from such a policy? I would urge anyone who considers the role of a public school district to be a regulator and administrator of individual rights, to really ask themselves why? Why should any school district, an entity rife with misappropriated funding, full of corrupt administrators past, present and surely the future be allowed the ability to siphon more money from the tax payers.
One thing for sure that will happen is that every person in Lewisville who owns property in Lewisville will have more of a burden to bear due to the increase in taxes by the school district to fund this ridiculous proposal. That every person who has any relative in the Lewisville school system will be affected by the enforcement policy that will result if this comes to fruition. Because these people who will be tested and as a result found out to be drug users are not people you don't know. These folks are your family members, your sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles as well as your friends too. Why would anyone want to allow a school district the ability to completely ruin the lives of others when the local police and all the federal policing agencies allready have that and have completely failed to do anything positive for the public. The only thing the war on drugs has accomplished is to make those enforcement agencies and the whole court system rich with the confiscated property of the individuals accused of using those drugs. There has been no positive results for any of the accused or their families. Only a never ending problem of being fined and probated and forced to pay for counciling and probationary measures. All those moneys go to the same system that created the system. The system that benefits none of the persons caught up in it. The system only benefits those involved in the systems enforcement side.
Before any type of drug testing is implemented in any ISD, the companies and administrators at all levels need to be tested. Their family members need to be tested as well. If this sounds ridiculous or too far fetched, you better think again. It is exactly what is being proposed be done to the students of Lewisville ISD.
Wake up, what school did you go to that had a brand new professional stadium for student athletes to play at? None is the answer because when we were in school those things did not exist because they were not needed. The answer should be the same today but for some reason I see these huge sports facilities and stadiums for all grade levels. This is completely a misuse of funds. There is no reason for these expenditures at all. When I went to school we had a field and some bleacher seats for the fans. There was no press box or box seating sections, and there is no reason children should have those things now.
Unless these items are paid for by private funds completely, they should not be built.
Single people who do not have children are not ever going to use these things and should not be made to pay for them.

I love the nanny state we live in next they will go door to door testing us all. If a student is on anti-depressants is that the schools business? It's up to a parent to keep their kids off drugs and teach the kids how to be responsible.

I agree with teh majority of Posters here. I don't want any ISD in the business of testing kids for drugs. This is a parental issue. As a father, I don't want the state or federal goverment in the child rearing business. And the cost of implementing this should not be borne by the taxpayers! I have yet to hear any reasoning for doing this, and what good it would achieve?? What is the justification on infringing on someone's civil rights?

test away! the best way to beat the tests is to NOT take drugs! its that simple! If kids are taking drugs I don't want them close to my kids.. Are we testing the admins and teacher too? I hope so!

unfortunately parents do not care about what their children do in their spare time anymore. my parents always know where i am, what i am doing, and who i am with. i am involved in many activities in my comunity and school. random drug testing is an excellent idea. it is very costly but if the parents did their jobs then the schools of america would not have to do it for them. many of the athletes and other students of my school are normally on some sort of illegal substance, and if you are unfamiliar with UIL regulations, if a student is found guilty of having any sort of illegal substance in their system the entire team is disqualified from the event. random drug testing is a positive way of preventing disqualification. and for the parents and students who dissaprove, what are you hiding? lets face the facts, kids honestly dont care about the money, and the parents that are angry are more than likely the ones falling down on their part of being a parent!!!

Kids are our future. Schools, kids and peer pressure is a lot worse than it was 25 years ago. Most kids have two working parents and don't get the family time that we used to. Their extracurricular activities are broader and they get more freedom. Most are given money without having to work it for like most of us did long before.

Somewhere, somehow, somebody HAS got to draw the line. Kids must learn the importance of taking things serious before they get out of school. It is a very important part of their future. I don't have children, but my sisters do. I can see it from both sides and am willing to pay higher tax dollars for the future of our country.

Absolutely wonderful idea! I think you those of you who oppose probably have a fear your kid will test positive. I have an At-Risk teen, no longer in school. She started using drugs with her high school softball team in Denton. Matter a fact she quit softball because they were not ethical they were pot heads. Oh, if you think you athelete, your chess player, your hard working, driving teen is not doing drugs then have no fear. If their name comes up they will test positive and move on. If you want parents to take control, make the economy eligible for parents to be more active in childrens lives rather than working 40+ hours a week so that they can have the nice clothes, nice home, nice car and sometime events the nice drugs! It's not about invading the privacy it's about protecting our kids from what can potentially be a deathly experience. Kids make money from selling drugs. The only alterantive I can see...have drug dogs at the entrances of the school every morning, at lunch and when kids attend games, dances, contest. Catch the dealer!!! If you have never been involved with an At-Risk child...don't ever think you have the control of your child or think your child would never touch drugs. It can happen even to the best and if you want to protect them, show them accoutability for having the priviledge to participate in an education without being seduced by drug predators!

You are absolutely right. Take off the blinders. We have a society right now that wants to make sure no one's feelings are hurt, no one says the wrong thing and protect those who are really part of the problem. There are no more consequences any more only exuses. A part of me has died inside because someone offered and my daughter accepted a joint. Three long years of rebellion and a 9th grade education. She still likes pot but is learning, life does not.

I think you are absolutely wonderful as a student to voice your opinion about this.

I as a parent do not want to see a child get kicked out of school, put in detention or die but that is the point. Get the drugs and dealers out of the schools. I will be praying for everyone that does not understand...accountability and responsibility!

school is exactly the right place for this, as schools are where most children get their drugs from to begin with. also if dirty they should be sent to an alternative school for the remainder of their schooling and kept away from the children who are actually at school to get an education.we need less tolerance with these children, and the schools need to start making them really accountable for their actions while there.if the public school system would bring back the regular use of the paddle in the 6th thru 8th grade years it would cure alot of the problems they have at the high school level.also how bout we bring back supervised boxing for children that wanna fight, full head gear oversized gloves ,like a comedy show and let all the kids enjoy a good show, not to mention embarrass the kids, wich is what they are all trying to avoid by fitting in to begin with

I'm sure Hitler said some of the same things that some are saying here. Even though you would like to think kids have no rights, they do. I bet this one ends up in court wasting more money. If you talk to your kids explain what drugs are and do to a life they will listen and make good choices. If you don't they won't. I love the fact that my parental rights are being stolen. As a former LISD student and, Marcus Grad I know my sons won't be going there or to any other school that thinks they can parent my child. I changed those shitty diapers not them.

its constitutional
its not fascist, what kind of district in the right mindset would want to suspend participants in their extracurricular activities on purpose? the district is only trying to cut down on drug use
random drug testing is proven to work http://www.studentdrugtesting.org/IN%20survey...
every piece of evidence that says it is not proven to work is only an online news article with no cited text
if other students are going to be so against random drug testing when drug usage is a problem, then offer a better solution
im tired of seeing all these drunk people and druggies around my school, its people like them that write obscene things on the bathroom walls so only one bathroom in the school is open
the random drug testing includes people who park in order to pool a larger amount of students so it is more random
the district is strict because they have to be; if you dont like it this way then just dont do drugs

Urine tests do infact test for most of these drugs that you claim they don't. I'm not sure about "cheese", but I do know that heroine, ecstacy, and many prescription drugs will show on a urine test. Prescription drugs tested for may include benzodiazepines (ie - valium and xanax, and many other that fall into this category), codeine and other opioids (oxycontin, oxycodone, hydrocodone, etc). Do some research before making claims about what urine tests do and do no test for.

As long as the school cannot afford books, classroom materials, free instrument and sport materials for those students who could have been saved if they could have afforded the fees, etc. they should not be paying for this. This is the parents responsibility. My child started doing badly in class so I went to the drug store and bought a drug test and made him take it. It came back negative and it turned out to be girl problems. The point is that any parent that cares and suspects anything can do this themselves. The school should stay out of it.

It's good that you are a great example of a responsible parent when it comes to addressing the issues of drug use and your expectations. Unfortunately not all are, too many are not, which is what creates this situation in the first place.

just let them smoke me at least, i'm harmless!

i'm seeing alot of people at my school resort to drugs not being tested.

alcohol, ecstacy, shrooms, lsd.

it scares me because these things hurt people alot worse.

kids are going to get high if they want to get high, and most kids are making BIG plans for the first day of summer and they are going to biiiinge for a good three months, then back to the alcohol.

marijuana get you high, you have the ability to drive, comprehend, and have fun. nobody dies from smoking marijuana.

alcohol gets you drunk, you lose control, you lose judgement, and people hurt them selves. alcohol deaths per year are out the roof.

it just scares me, all the kids that prefered getting high are now getting drunk, and driving drunk.

just give them the mari jane.

drug testing has not proven to keep kids from doing drugs, it's proven to keep kids from getting caught doing drugs.

you're creating masterminds of deception!

i know this is true, first hand.

quitting drugs is something that doesn't happen from something as little as a drug test. something bigger in life changes that.
