And what adults here are so deserving of respect from any child.
Dad is applying several punishments for one rant. She will learn nothing. Now viewed all over the world, she is completely humiliated.
"Your name is Hannah, as in Facebook dad Hannah?"
She will be focused on homecoming pictures she never printed lost forever.
As seen on "In Loving Memory", my friend passed away leaving her family behind. There are 4 kids and an 18 year old will now be the head of the house, except they don't have a house. My friend, their mom, had been ill, was on section 8, foodstamps, and ssi. Their father passed away a few years ago. This is a situation where every dollar counts. They all work and struggle every day. Maybe he should've had Hannah visit a family like this and give them her laptop.
The father missed his opportunity to give this girl a true lesson and instead went off pure anger and embarrassment that his daughter humiliated him in front of a bunch of other 15 year olds. This was not punishment. It was payback.
Jump on the band wagon if you choose. I will not.
My job is to raise well-rounded adults who can contribute and care for themselves.
Whatever happened to rational discussion?
Use your "indoor voice" or get a "timeout" mister - liberal parenting, what a joke.

Are you one of those shitty parents that raises disrespectful, spoiled rotten brats? The ones running around with more metal in their face than a 59 Cadillac El Dorado and tattoos up and down their arms because junior's "just expressing himself"? One of those parents that acts more like their kid's friend than a parent?

Cause you sound like the typical liberal spoiled brat maker I just described.

Let's express that feeling in song!
In the Dark of the night Hannah was on facebook! And the comments she made were as bad as can be! Put her father at out of his wits! shot her laptop to bits! She will open her eyes and realize she was a ditz! Our generation is the worst in America!(chorus)"Oaho! "
When she betrayed her father she made a mistake!(chorus)"Oaho! "
We will make each of them pay! Hannah payed this day! All you brats beware we are coming your way!(chorus)"In the dark of the night, punishment will find her! In the dark of the night, just before dawn!". Revenge will be sweet!(together)When the punishment is complete!(chorus)"In the dark of the night!". She'll be gone!(chorus)"Oooh!" I can see parental respect is slowly returning! Children do your chores and spray that bathroom smell! As the pieces fall into place, we'll see them crawl into place! Oh Princess Hannah under your grace, farewll!(chorus)"In the dark of the night, tough love will strike her!" Tough love is the least we can do!(chorus)"In the dark of the night, punishment will brew!". "Oooh!" Soon she will feel, what real life feels! "In the dark of the night!". She'll be through!(chorus)"In the dark of the night, punishment will find her!" "Find her!" "In the dark of the night, terror comes true!" "Doom her!". My dear it's a sign!(together)It's the end of the line!(chorus)"In the dark of the night, In the dark of night!". Bow all children, bow to your masters, then your greatness will shine!(chorus)"In the dark of the night, In the dark of the night!". Find her now, yes, search ever faster!(chorus)"In the dark of the night, In the dark of the night, In the dark of the night!". She'll be ours!

I understand the fathers outrage and his answer but I feel that the gun was too much. It shows a preteen that its ok to use a gun to solve a problem. I definately would have taken away the laptop, grounded her and probably gave her some real 'chores' in the form of work to do around the house. Because she is only 15 going on 10 and spoiled I think a trip to a local 'scared straight' program might be in order.

Never thought about it that way , but I also think you are giving the immature spoiled preteen to much credit, she apparently doesn't pick up on things to quickly , hence the fact that this is the second time getting caught and she isn't as slick as she thinks she is, but I think he would be better off trucking her up here by me in Baltimore and doing a scared strait deal here that might actually wake up a brain cell or two

Put your gun away while speaking to me.

You have no idea what kind of parent I am. There is a far cry between using a gun s liberal parenting.

Be constructive. Argue a valid. Or simply pass right over me.

Teaching children to solve a problem by shooting a gun at it is hardly good parenting behavior, not to mention sane human thinking or action, nor responsible adult behavior. He's now humiliated his entire family & town, because he could not control his own anger, could not control his own daughter by setting reasonable limits with consequences he could enforce, such as taking away the laptop, or the net connection or the FB account, etc. The girl expressed her frustration in a more healthy & sane way than did the adult parent! Do you want your kids growing up thinking shooting something will solve a problem? Let's just shoot the TV when a commercial comes on? Or shoot a teacher who gave a deserved bad grade? Let's shoot the parent who teaches the child to solve problems with a gun, that'll learn 'em. No wonder kids are taking guns to school & going on killing sprees, these are their role models in action.
How can anyone not see the insanity in this? I'm for gun ownership, but not to be abused like this or used to terrify a child into behaving. It's men like this that will get our rights taken away, because even adults can't be trusted to use their brain before shooting, obviously! Then he does it on camera & thinks he's justified & a good parent??? Wow. I am blown away at the stupidity of this entire episode & the responses to it here & elsewhere supporting such behavior. Yes let's all use guns to solve our problems until there are no people left to shoot but oneself?
great post, good to see there are still Some rational people in the world.

I don't understand why the father had to react like that. What kind of attitude does he expect from his daughter after doing this to her laptop? A total 180 attitude change? If anything, any respect for the dad would have gone in an instant. Shooting a laptop just to prove your point? And posting it on facebook for the whole world to see? That's stooping down to the same level of stupidity and childishness as your 15 year old daughter as when she posted that rant on her facebook.
I'm not saying that she wasn't disrespectful. Perhaps she could have expressed herself in a more mature manner. But that does not warrant such a behaviour from you either. She was wrong to post such things on facebook, and you were wrong to even try to resort to such a measure to get her attention. This matter could have been dealt with in a calmer and more effective manner.
And as her Dad, what message are you trying to send out to her? That it's okay to shoot your kid's belongings if you found out that they posted an angry rant on you on facebook? What if she does that to her kids in the future? Worst, what if she goes one step too far and puts a bullet through her kids instead? Have you thought of the psychological reprecussions when you shot her stuff and posted it online?
Dear Sir, I'm afraid to say that you've just lost a daughter, and she'll never come back to you. You may think she's learnt her lesson, but the only lesson she's learnt is "I've got a trigger happy Dad who's not afraid to shoot my stuff so I'd better pretend to be the perfect daughter or I'll be the next thing he puts a bullet through."

He can do what he wants, its his daughter, his laptop, his gun. I'm sure the 8-10 minutes on you tube is not the entirety of the subject between daddy and daughter but it did show her the finality of her laptop. To think he is going to shoot her or other inanimate objects is an asinine argument. He's trying to teach her that "honor thy mother and father" is a priority over a laptop/facebook. He had nothing to lose...she was already posting hateful things about him on line. Its hilarious that the argument has now turned to the possibility of her shooting her unborn children because of this. Did you feel it was ok to go shoot your living children after watching this? Besides, shooting a gun might get her hands dirty or break a nail

Another belief of mine ... NEVER bring anyone else into your family. Not the government, police, or public, which may bring the government/police into your family.

I'd bet everything I have that after this video went viral Child Protective Services made an appearance on this family's doorstep.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aquarius

You won't like it if you feel your wings are being clipped today. You want to do something in particular, only to discover that someone is objecting to your plans or that circumstances beyond your control are standing in your way. Although your instincts tell you to throw a tantrum to get your point across, you must ask yourself what this will achieve, and whether it will actually be self-defeating.
